JJB in Administration

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/9562092/JJB-Sports-calls-in-administrators.html#

Looks like the deal to pull out of the JJB contract and move to Sports Direct was a very good move.

Would have been a bit of an issue if the main kit retailer went under.

Anyone noticed if any Sports Direct stores are now stocking more Rangers merchandice than before?

I always knew they were struggling a bit but I didnt realise how close to going to the wall they were.

JJB have been struggling for some time. In the town where I live in England, which is fairly small, they had 2 large stores. This was mind boggling that they might think a town this size would require 2. For some time I have only ever bought from Sports Direct as they sell the same things for cheaper. It's not rocket science; if your competitor undercuts you with the majority of products you need to act.

The price difference on items is also fairly vast. I bought the Scotland white away shirt for 25 pounds from SD, which was going for 35 at JJB.

Yep - spot on Ginger.

You wonder who is running these companies sometimes.

In an age where online retail is booming they are probably bleeding cash left right and centre on employing shop staff and renting buildings.

There's a big down side to this in terms of the overall market - Sportsdirect have basically strangled the nigh street market but now have no competition if JJB vanish. They will likely take advantage of being the only show in town by upping their prices.
