The great Nigel debate....

Will Forest fans and certain Derby fans now agree the Nigel Clough is no longer "Non League Nigel" (NLN) or "Agent Clough" and he has now proved himself as an astute Manager with the bad squad he took on and the limited resources he's been working with.

Is Nigel Clough non-League or has he done a good job?

Sorry Viewfrom,

I don't agree that you should come on to an internet forum purely to WUM other people. Please stick to the subject matter of the debate and stop attempting to wind everyone up.

Thats all.

Thanks.

I think Nige has done a brilliant job for you lot turning your squad into an average/decent Championship side, I'm amazed he gets such stick after having to sell his better players year after year.

From a Forest fan's point of view I find it sad, firstly that he joined your lot and secondly that his team put on such a horror show last weekend. Brian would be turning in his grave if he'd seen the game last week as Nigel seems to be recreating his Dad's nemesis 70's era Leeds Utd team.

Now we were awful too before anyone feels the need to point that out.

Can't believe you're saying that Lloyd, unless your tongue is firmly in your cheek. Surely you found the antics of the Forest players far worse, surrounding the ref at every opportunity, not to mention rolling around on the floor when tackled? I can imagine some of your fellows citing this as "evidence" of Derby's so-called dirty play, but I thought you were a bit smarter. What would Brian have to say, do you think, about that sort of behaviour?

It cannot be coincidence that Derby have such a good disciplinary record under Clough, much better than Forest. How can this be explained away? Last season Derby were seventh in the "fair play" league (Forest were joint thirteenth), and this season we are averaging about one yellow card per game, which is about the least it is possible to manage. How do you account for this?

Believe, as I find it hard to see how you thought our behaviour was worse. I don't see where I said we were blameless, Cox's tackle was nasty and far worse than what Blackstock did. I wouldn't have complained if he'd gone although it would've been annoying watching Bryson play on as that was as bad a tackle as I've seen for a good long while.

You know what, you won so maybe played in a way that you needed to. If that invloves kicking lumps out of and going through the back of our striker that primarily holds up the ball then kudos to you. Brian set his teams out in a less than attractive way at times so maybe wouldn't have a problem.

I think evidence of your bad behaviour can be found in a stat I'll dig out from another forum saying that Derby committed more fouls in the first half than every other club did during the whole game last weekend.

Well done for your near exemplory behaviour, you must just transform yourselves every time you play us as there's been a red a year for the past 4 games, 2 for us and 2 for you. I don't think I'm talking about how you play every game, just in the one I watched where you resembled a rugby team.

I thought Cox's tackle looked bad, but unintentional. I thought Blackstock was very unlucky to be sent off as again there was great doubt about intent. I thought Bryson's challenge was not intended to be malicious and I thought Roberts made a fair tackle. Just after Blackstock ran into Buxton (again I thought no intent, but Buxton was clearly riled) the latter did jump into the back of Blackstock, and I thought that was worth a yellow. Reid's was pretty innocuous.

That's just what I think. With recent history and all, it is inevitable that players are a bit fired up, and I thought initially the ref did OK to make allowances for this. The TV coverage made reference to Forest's players "milking" challenges and it did seem to me that they set out to try to put pressure on the referee, maybe because he is young. Perhaps I am being unfair. Having started out trying to let things go, he then changed tack as if he had suddenly decided he needed to stamp authority on the game, and booked players for lesser challenges.

I thought it was all pretty tame stuff, and has been used subsequently as a convenient smokescreen. Portraying Derby as dirty simply doesn't stand up to any kind of scrutiny - as we all know, Forest's disciplinary record is far, far worse - while suggesting that Derby set out to play in a dirty way just when they play Forest is also a bit daft, and seems a slender kind of straw to clutch at .

But hey ho, you're entitled to your opinion, even when it's wrong.
