Xenophobia - Luis Suarez

Nobody seems to be disputing the fact that Suarez threw himself to the floor at the weekend.

But surely, Rodgers comments yesterday were valid. On a weekend were several players were caught committing some appalling challenges, dives and one teams yellow card haul - the same name seemed to occupy the backpages of all the major newspapers. The same name even had two stories dedicated to his antics on the BBC main sports page.

I genuinely wasn't aware of Bale's dive until I came onto this forum.

John Terry received a 4 match ban for using racist language - he was even caught on camera. It was a word completely frowned upon in our country. A few interviews were conducted outside FA Headquarters etc and the odd article.
Suarez received an 8 game ban and a public mauling for several months. He also had various black people from race support groups and ex-black players all slamming the Liverpool forward. He was never proven to be racially abusive.

The irony in all of this is that the one person continuously accused of being prejudiced is the very man who is the biggest victim of prejudice an xenophobia. (yes, i used the word victim)

The witch-hunt continues

By the way, i recall the incident when Phil Neville stopped a goal with his hand and the commentator said he "took one for the team"

As for Suarez's handball on the line... well.... I don't need to say anymore.

Maradona is a cheat, Suarez is a cheat but Bale and Young are fantastic young English players.... Right ?

WRONG...Bale is Welsh.

So its not xenophonia

The Neville one went down as exactly that. Could potentially have cost us the game, but seen as a sacrifice work taking by the commentators. Suarez does it and.....
Funny how everyone always brings the "biting" incident into an argument aswell yet have no knowledge of the incident itself.
Was there the same outrage when Defoe bit a player? Does anyone even remember it? I wonder why that is

Anfield Rap
I recall reading this around the time it was written. Its a good read. Have a look and there is plenty of evidence of the english priding themsleves whilst casually pointing the finger to johnny foreigner.

As the writer puts, casual xenophobia remains in the game.

It doesn't have to be a nation or an entire race to be xenophobic - i offered a perfectly sound analogy for this early in the thread

As much as people want to have a go at him, I think the fact that Suarez seems to care very little about what they say, irks them more.
In spite of it all, he seems to have a very strong character

has made a rod for his own back with his track record
==========================================
He did on Sunday, but his "track record" includes a hell of a lot of occasions when he clearly didn't dive.

He's been accused of diving in each of the last 4 games, and only one of the 4 was a dive. In the Norwich game, the defender practically assaulted him with an elbow-chop to the head, and then ran to the referee claiming a dive.

The argument is always that those things are happening because of his "track-record", but this "track-record" goes back a supiciously long way, before he'd had any time to build up a genuine "track-record".

Downing did a fresh-air dive against United at Anfield last year, when Evra clearly didn't touch him, and there was barely a murmur about it in the Press. A large proportion of this "track-record" is manufactured, though it does include some self-inflicted ones.

kemlyn

It's not really about the diving, although he's up there with the worst for me

It's the play acting. It's becoming pathetic
