How has this affected the ja606 users? For me not much and as a Tory blue I respect Cameron for the job he has undertaken due to the unsurprising failure of a Labour government, not for the 1st time!
2nd question - Aspirations, I believe you end up where you want, if you are prepared to sacrifice and work hard everything is indeed achievable. however the growth of university places was always going to stop and decline. FFS you can have a degree in Harry Potter amongst other things. Therefore I would rather that University, true Universities, were vetted on the courses they run for the relevance/need for them and had their budgets adjusted like wise. I would also like to see non "universities" returned to their previous status of college/polytechnic.
Thoughts?

If you are a true Tory blue then you will surely agree with Universities exercising freemarket enterprise?

Chuman i have no issues with uni whatsoever but not in favour of polys or techs that call themselves uni.

Are you not suggesting that these 'minor' universities return to being colleges? Surely these institutes should be allowed to expand and grow under free market rules, without interference from the gov?
I dont know what the qualifiers are for colleges to become/call themselves uni's but there must be some regulator that allows them this freedom. Supposing they also meet certain criteria/requirements?
Doesnt sound very conservative.

How does a return to a true status prevent a free market? Truly the growth in education will over the next decade be in providing skills not theory. Set yourself up with 6 chippies/sparks/brickies/glaziers and educate kids with these professions and they/you will be richer than most!

The boom in higher education grants/fees/additional funding, enticed these former colleges to become unis. Free market rules allowed them to do this and free market being the tories cornerstone principal seems to contradict your opinion. Im just trying to understand how you could claim to be a tory and not understand this principal.
Im all for more manual skills/expertise being taught however in the current climate the scenario you just outlined is not an attractive one. What you are proposing is to leave the established institutes to the provision of university courses and not allow any smaller unis/colleges to grow. Kind of like the Uefa introducing the FFP rules which will hinder smaller clubs from becoming bigger clubs.
Sounds more socialist than conservative.

Chuman free enterprise requires a business model like it or not uni's will suffer and may flounder though a move to my new option may allow them to go on. Change isnt always bad and to stick to a mantra as you appear to wish means i should still be bangin on about the commonwealth and our controlling of india africa et al! Maggie is a legend but i cant keep batterin minets now can i?
