Someone tell me how cleverly gets picked ahead of shelvey; btw this isnt a utd vs lfc matter, cleverly is a decent player but shelvey has more about him for me.

Life is way too short to watch that again I'll pay attention next time. I guess we'll see what the coup is when we play poland in the week.

Cleverly gets picked ahead of him because he's a better player, it's that simple! It's a reason why Liverpool are fighting relegation and united are fighting for the title!

Cleverly had his best England game and as I've said before, he is way ahead of Shelvey, certainly in terms of playing for England.

Cleverley is an outstanding talent (though Hodgson should not be playing him as a no.10 at all, he is clearly a midfielder like he showed last night) and with Wilshere could form a midfield 2 of top quality.
I think Shelvey is good but a class below.

When Wilshire comes back, Cleverley and Wilshire will probably be fighting for one position, whilst a more attacking partner, in Gerrard, Lampard or the younger players, the likes of Shelvey, will be preferred.

I don't think the keeper should be capt. but that's just my opinion In a game like that it needs to be lead from the front.
The Euro finals, Spain v Italy, who are their captains?
I think it actually makes little diffferance nowadays, certain players are leaders and will play that way even if not captain. When Terry played he always led the defence whether captain or not, but that might just be because he is a prat

If we had the skill of spain or italy, then I might consider that statement worth comparing to england but we don't.

Why not pick Shelvey alongside Cleverly? Shelvey although young, is a class above the dreadful Michael Carrick.

Carrick and Shelvey are completely different players. In a 4-4-2, one has to sit more and I wouldn't fancy Shelvey to do that job. Wilshire could certainly do it but it remains to be seen whether he will come back the same player.

I couldn't give a monkeys whats sort of player Carrick is. In my opinion, and I have the right to it, as this is a debate. However I don't think Manchester United know the meaning of the words ''Opinion'' or ''debate'' Its either ''agree with them' or ''You are bitter''.
Back to the topic in question. I don't think Carrick is a good player, I've never rated him. I didn't rate him when he was at West Ham, I didn't rate him when he was at Spurs, I still don't rate him.
Cleverly and Shelvey would in my opinion be a decent partnership.
