Wigan away to Swansea

Away to Swansea next, and an important fixture for both teams. The fixture after the international break always poses problems. Even Wigan have 12 players away on international duty for eight countries.

Players may come back tired, injured or jet-lagged. After Wales' comeback, Welsh players may be feeling more confident, Scottish ones dispirited. There is a further round of mid-week games.

Meanwhile, there are stories of conflict between Michael Laudrup and Swansea players over the new training regime. The chairman is reported to have held crisis talks with the manager.

There seems to be a new round of managerial musical chairs beginning.

Graeme Jones is reportedly the target of Burnley. At the start of the season, he was mentioned in connection with Swansea.

Blackburn and Bolton are also looking for a new manager.

Wigan went into the game with no more new concerns other than the air miles collected by Beausejour and Figueroa.

Another broadly even game was decided by the referee's decision not to allow Kone's goal. Martinez said that he had learnt not to comment.

Martinez made his substitutions after the burst of three goals, bringing on Watson, Boselli and Gomez for Figueroa, McArthur and di Santo to increase the emphasis on attack. In injury time, Vorm saved a header from Al Habsi.

Wigan are now firmly stuck among the strugglers at the foot of the table. Three points would make a big difference, and the West Ham game takes on even greater importance.
