This short anectode is what i think is the diference between accepting success and seeking true glory
I heard an old player (I didnt catch who) on the radio today talking about Alan Mullery's last game for the Mighty Spurs, so I looked it up and read a bit about it
Alan Mullery Scored in the second leg of the 1971/72 Uefa cup final against Wolves winning us the trophy 3-2 on aggregate ...knowing it was his last game, Mullery wanted to do an extra lap of honour round the lane in front of the home fans, so the rest of the team carried him round with the cup ...when they got back to the dressing room they were still celebrating when someone said "Wheres Bill?" ..5 minutes later the gaffer stormed into the dressing room "Ive been in the Wolves dressing room telling them that the best team lost!"
It proves what made him so great and what makes our club what we are, as we know that for him - winning wasnt about success, it was about glory, and glory is about doing it with style.
Bill Nicholson - pure gold

He made sure every player gave 100% every minute of every game and if you didnt you would not be in the team long
Now days the players think they are legendss at 20 yrs old and not even achieved anything

I like one of his comments about Jimmy Greaves after a game.
"All he did this afternoon was score
those four goals"!!!
Clearly a hard man to please.

I get pelters on here if I say similar things after we get a result and play badly!

The chances of a Spurs VS Wolves UEFA cup final these days would be absolutely negligible!

This is what the man wanted for his teams and his club.
A Spurs manager who takes those edicts to heart will achieve what St Nicholson did.
