Dermot Gallagher

Don't know if you guys watch SSN on a Monday morning, but the part where Gallagher comes in and talks about the weekends controversial decisions I find really interesting viewing.

Upon the Torres second yellow, he says how he spoke to Clattenburg about the situation and how he feels that Torres was seeking to get Johnny Evans in some trouble and over simulated his fall, therefore going against some rule in the book for faking simulation and went to give him a yellow card, it was at that point he realised he was already on a caution and had to send him off. Gallagher told him that he feels that he was wrong in this case, but Clattenburg still feels his actions he took were correct, to which Gallagher proceeds to saying how we all have a objective view on the situation and that is what was called, he has heard from others on the radio a divided opinion on the matter and ultimately Torres was sent off.

I quite enjoyed listening to what he had to say about this incident and many others as he is badgered by the SSN reporters into explaining the decisions made and he comes with great background knowledge, states the rules of the game, voices his own opinion, talks to those directly or closely linked to the situation and give his overall verdict on the outcome.

I hope all divers get a yellow so we can cut it out the English game, including our players

I think it should be simple. After a game, all the video is looked over, if they think anyone is guilty of diving, then that player gets their backside rogered by the OP.

Why wouldn't you like SKY.
They have a hard on for Utd

I personally wouldn't have sent him off but what some people are forgetting is that we probably would have won the game even had Torres stayed on so it's a pointless debate

Given what Torres contributed..you may be right...we'll never know now

Dave

Rob Wotton is I think after Gallagher assessed the situation, his mind wasn't changed and he just made a comment like "so Evans fouled Torres we will leave it at that"

They left a lot of decisions out to be honest, including the Suarez foul on Distin which I feel should be a red, did you see it!! How is that an attempt at playing the ball studs up on the back of his leg? And if you took that into account where would Suarez have been to knock in the offside winner should he have been sent off for that?

There was no attempt at the ball.

That was a deliberate stamp on the achilles heel.

pretty nast stuff that tbh and not unusual for that

We got lucky with Torres getting sent off after that particular incident yesterday, no doubt about it but he shouldn't have been on the pitch at that point anyway which some people seem to be forgetting or blatantly ignoring after Torres' near neck high challenge on Cleverley which to the credit of Tom, didn't make a meal out of it like some players would've done.

I would have to question though why Torres went down grabbing his knee in the challenge from Evans when the contact was well below the knee.

Could that not be classed as simulation in a way?

I don see what the big deal is, he's blatantly looking to get Evans sent off and he got what he deserved, good and brave call imo

I said it before and I say it again. refs are human and make mistakes. They have one chance to look at things and make a decision

My view yesterday was that would have booked young for simulation as i saw him go down and his leg come out as it often does to initiate contact. This has been agreed upon as being a red card for ivanovic. Young actually got up straight away though to appeal rather than feign pain

I would have booked torres for simulation as the camera angle was pretty much in line with the ref when teh inicdent occurred and evans didnt look like he had touched him and torres definately made a meal of it and that was evident when he got booked ALL the pain disappeared

closer inspection both my decisions would have been wrong, but thats the way it goes

I think suarez scrape on the achilles needs retrospective action as that was nasty. rules may say ref dealt with it but did he see it the way he people are saying clattenberg should have seen the evans touch?

also believe that if a player has rep for diving then ref needs to take that into account and in 50/50's decision goes against player. If they dont like it tough, stop diving

refs will get it wrong in some occassions but if it stops diving a few ''victims'' are worth it IMO, but the ref needs to give a penalty on fouls and not ''force'' players to go down to ensure they get it

The FA or the Premier League need to start banning players for 3-4 games who are caught diving.

This will soon stamp it out of the English game because managers will soon stress to players not go down easily as they'll not want to be losing players for a number of games.

Until this issue is dealt with properly and harsher punishments are handed down, it will never go away.
