Whats happening to our young prospects? First Naill McGinn is let go by Celtic. Then a similar fate befalls Rory Patterson at Plymouth. Now perhaps the most acclaimed of the lot, Liam Boyce is farmed out to Oxford by Bremen.
Much was expected of Liam, but the sad fact is he hasnt managed to get beyond the third team at Bremen. In a way I think its good for him to move if that is all they can offer him!
Seems that gone are the days when an Irish League player might be signed by a top flight side in England or elsewhere and walk straight into the first team, eg Bobby Irvine(Linfield to Stoke), Billy Caskey(Glentoran to Derby), Jonny Crossan(Coleraine to Sparta), Wilbur Cush(Glenavon to Leeds), etc.

The standard of Irish league football has deminished since those days Shen.
Also any decent prospect is picked up at 16 or earlier so the late bloomers are the only chance and these are not ready for top class football.
The last player to play in Irish league and then EPL is Darron Gaibson I believe?
