Was anyone else really surprised by how few people were at the match today? I would have thought a cricket mad country with over a billion people could sell out a big test match like this. It must have been well short of 50% full!
Are Indian fans just interested in t20 and ODI's? I thought it was really sad to see, test matches should be better supported than this.
Indian crowd

Blimey! That's is poor. There will probably be less tomorrow with no prospect of sachin batting!
I do fear for test cricket. A crowd of a few thousand is no more than your average league 2 game. If there is no public interest the game will die

Today is one of last days of Diwali festival in India, that could be the reason of having less crowd as People tend to visit their families, relatives, friends etc...which sometimes more imp than cricket.

The crowds for tests for all subcontinent teams are appalling. The effect of T20/IPL/CHAMPS league is a major factor. Saying that the aussie crowds vs saffers was hardly impressive.
Also, with test cricket in decline, it doesn’t help that the BCCI have ousted the likes of sky and other major tv channels to broadcast. Many of the English Newspapers and other major news agencies have boycotted the first test because of media restrictions imposed on them by BCCI. What exactly are they trying to achieve other than turning the ‘average man on the street’ away from test cricket?
