Catches win matches

I find it compelling that our recent demise coincides with very poor fielding in the last year.

Firstly, we had the shocker against South Africa. Lets not deter from the fact they were better, but we had many chances and dropped key catches at important moments. Amla being the main beneficiary.

So comes the tour of India. Already we can see the impressive Indians take control, but it could have been so different. A missed stumping by Prior, dropped catch by Prior, missed catch by Anderson from the class act who got 200 and a drop from Trott.

Should we have got these wickets, it could have been different. A lower total and less panic for our batsmen, who yet again show their lack of skill to deal with spin.

It seems to be all out block or attack. Can we not just use wrists to nurdle the ball around?

To many times the eventual winner is decided on the first morning with the toss of the coin...
Home ground added with home crowd is enough of an advantage but to win the toss on top of that and the result is as good as made, especially in todays cricket where there is not much between the top 4-5 nations.
The top sides will over-come the loss of a coin throw against the weaker teams but that's where it ends.
I'd love to know the stats on winners after winning the toss....I'd say 75-85% of results between the top teams competing..

Think England dropped about 3 in total. That's probably your average in any series regardless of teams, so wouldn't forcus too much on that.

Toss was a factor in first couple of days, but there is no excuse for Englands batting. Woeful.
