The stakes are so high now that youth progression isn't worth it to top teams if it means dropped points and cup knockouts. I mean, Fergie probably wont be playing two kids at CB again anytime soon.

There's the odd rarity that gets through granted but the conversion rate from academy to first team at the top is awful.
