English conditions - how much of a factor?

Just want to start a debate on the importance of home conditions to ENglands performances, in particular to the pace attack...
Having just seen the no.1 test side and supposedly the most technically gifted batting line-up in world cricket be bowled out for 286, it makes me wonder if the same would be likely to happen in subcontinental conditions. With the quality of ENglands bowling attack as it is in this match, could they cope in different conditions?

They did it in Australia, and in parts in the South African campaign, we'll have to see in the subcontinent.

The Ashes series was so amazing for us because of the question-mark that constantly hangs over the heads of English bowlers- can they do it in tough conditions?

Having said that, it wasn't like typical Australian conditions. They left a lot of grass on the MCG pitch (stupidly thinking they could replicate the WACA), and Sydney was overcast if memory serves. Still our batsmen didn't find the conditions too difficult did they?

On the whole I honestly think we have a few very skilled bowlers. Bowlers with skill can take wickets anywhere. Anderson only needs a tiny bit of movement to be dangerous in test matches and he can do that anywhere. Swann is the best spinner in the world, and Tremlett is a tall bowler who can bowl on a good length with regularity. This combined with Broad, or Bresnan, and Panesar or Patel is just as good as any Sub.c bowling attack in my book.

haha forgot about big Samit yeah you're right about spinners though they have the potential to do damage on any world stage, especially talismanic Swann.
Not entirely convinced that Broad would be effective in sub.c
Trott and Morgan are perfectly suited to Sri lanka due to patient but efficient batting styles and morgans variety of innovative shots should be a great advantage once he finds consistency as Trott and Cook have.

If Broad continues to bowl as he did today and as he he did at the Oval two years ago, he will be a threat anywhere. In Oz, Jimmy was taking wickets when there was very little swing because he was so accurate.
2010 in Bangladesh Bresnan was our best seamer and was excellent in Oz.

I know, it is close between him and Panesar.
