Brewers Match Predictor (23): Barnet

Check this out for a problem. I want to go to this game. I am at work on Friday and I am on the stay until 5pm rota (kick off 8pm). Rewind to the start of the day and I have to be awake at 4.15am to take my missus to East Midlands Airport. The sensible head is saying 'Don't go to the game'.

Anyway, this game marks the halfway stage in the predictor league. Four 'teams' have yet to predict a correct scoreline and this is their game to break their duck. I can feel it in my bones.

By 10pm on Friday night Captain Utd may have relinquished his 15 game stint at the top of the table. 22 games gone and 15 of them at the top. That is quite an achievement. Will it be 16 on Friday night?

Barnet are the team I most dislike in our league. I wish Calvin had relegated them with that penalty. The ball he struck was eventually found in Coalville by the way. I used to like going to Hereford aswell.

Alas Barnet are much better than they were pre-Davids. With that in mind;

Christmas programme could be pivotal, and we have to ensure that we do not fall by the wayside, as by the end of the festivities the play-off picture may be come a bit more settled, as I feel that more of a gap will develop and some teams will become more detached and then depend on a long unbeaten run to stand any chance of getting back into the reckoning.

I have no researched statistical basis for this, but I believe that the closeness of the various teams in standard to each other, and the ability for any team to beat each other, has resulted in an excessive number of draws (which I bet on last week , and got quite a healthy return). My point is that a point is not enough
against Barnet, and that 3 points is required to start off
the holiday programme.

I believe we have to take the game to Barnet. Our defensive resilience is great, but if we go in too defensive we could end up losing 1-0. Start with 2 men up front, and hit 'em hard and early on. Also believe we have to use the squad wisely over the period, not be scared to rest a few players each game, with fired up replacements set to stake their claim for a place. I believe GR will get it right, hence

C'mon you Brewers . This could be a Kee match!

Also like to say how we all appreciated Don touchedmyboots comments about the friendliness of this site (the subject of a very recent article). Everyone is welcome and "Don.....'s" contribution is always a positive and interesting input in the debate, and provides a different aspect to the indigenous Burton supporter, and I'm sure is regarded as an honorary Brewers Fan and friend.

Last year I did some research on the use of JA606, and the only League 2 sides then using the site for regular and meaningful debate were the Brewers and Swindon. I was surpised by the lack of activity, or the banale comments.

If I get chance over Xmas, I will trawl through the various sites and report back.

In the meantime a very Happy Christmas to all Brewers
Fans and Honorary Fans who contribute to this friendly site, who share a common devotion to our team, but respect and appreciate the opposition and their fans, and enjoy watching good entertaining football (it takes two teams to make a good match!)

I have had a look at Barnets Results and tried to make a pediction based on that, but it is not so clear cut. Barnet sit at bottom of the league and they are letting in goals left, right and centre. They have been thrashed in some games 4-0,4-1,3-0, but most of there other games they have only lost by 1 goal or have made a draw.
Also to add to this Barnet seem to have found a way to close the flood gates in there last 4 games.
On paper we are near the top and they are at the bottom.I want the Brewers to kick a team when they are down and pick up 3 points, because that is what any other team will do in League football to us if were at the bottom.
We all know by now that the Brewers have failed to do this when points are for the taking for a few seasons now.I so want it that this time round we get the tactics spot on and collect all 3 points.

Barnet 1- 2 Brewers.

Very difficult to predict after our results against Aldershot and Wycombe but i see both those teams are doing very well now. My head says 1-1 but i'm going with my heart and a 1-0 win for the Albion. This really is an important match to set us up with confidence for the busy Christmas and New year period.

Hopefully we will be able to avoid getting caught up in the swarm then sting them before getting stung first!

A victory for the Brewers would be nectar and taste as sweet as honey! If we can hive a lot of the possession I see us bee..ting them!

I think it's time we had a good win and so will go for a 4-0 win.

Terraceman echoes my thoughts (and worries) exactly. I'm also opting for a 1.0 Brewers win but it is a bottom of the table side we are playing!!!!!!! Oh dear!!

Had a look at previous results at Barnet and thought I'd posted these a couple of days ago. Nothing here, suspect operator error!

Upshot was 2 wins 3 draws and 2 defeats at Underhill over the last ten years. Think I went for a 2-0 Brewers win. Looks a bit reckless after reading Otep's stats, but a few of you have gone for 1-0 so I'll stick at 2-0 as I need to pick up a few points of my own.

Doesn't look as though many of us are going to add to our points tally tonight
