Away drinking at the AMEX

Morning,

I will be heading to the AMEX on the 12th Jan for the first time with my boy, just wondering what the area at Falmer is like for away fans having a drink? I will be coming in from Pompey on the train is it more advisable to grab a beer in Brighton as I hear the ground is in the middle of nowhere?
