Game on!

Great effort by the people at Ipswich to get the game on today, thought my 40 quid was going to go to waste. Need a big performance today if we're to keep in touch with the mob above us and get out of the dropzone, we can do it and a win today would not go amiss. Absolutely freezing at Portman road! You reds!

I thnk we can get at least a point today after last weeks performance. Come on you reds.

Better team in the first half and if it wasn't for Marlon missing two sitters we'd be cruising. Just hope that doesn't cost us and reward the couple of hundred who've made the long journey.

Danny Rose - Baby faced Assassin!

Rosey does it again! Scrappy goal but absolutely fully deserved, especially after missing another few good chances, and myself and the other 174 tykes will be going home with at least something to be happy about. Full report tomorrow as I'm going straight out when I'm back in Nottingham.

Going to be a good player, unfortunately, like Clark, not quite ready to play regularly! Some, like Stones, are ready at earlier age than others.

It's not just about ability but strength and pace, lads develop at different rates. They are the future, though!

Scrappy goal? Not at all! It was a striker's goal, running across to the front post is exactly what you need a striker to do.

Rosey is an out and out goalscorer great movement and finishing! One for the future.

An excellent header; near post headers were my speciality; it indicates a thinking player who is alert.

Danny Rose, a Barnsley lad with a great future; I've watched him since he was a first year scholar; talent, attitude, courage and determination is a great combination.

Apologies, having viewed it back it was indeed a fantastic header from the lad. From where I was sat it just looked like 4 players had thrown themselves at the ball and it had bobbled in off one of them, not that I cared how it had gone in at the time!

Despite this, as I said while at the game, we should've been cruising at half time with Harewood missing two one-on-ones, though the angle was slightly against him both times. Ipswich seemed quite willing to invite us on for some reason, consequently we dominated possession and put in some great balls but they were dealt with well under pressure by the Town defence. Ipswich's only real chances of the first half were missed by Edwards, who smashed one at Steele from distance, and Chambers who should've broken the back of the net when a deflected ball dropped to him 6 yards out.
Second half Ipswich came out looking sharper and took the lead through Chambers, after that we dominated possession and Harewood again should've scored when he scuffed his shot wide from 8 yards and then had the ball hit at him pretty much on the line from what I could see, but of course the chance went begging yet again. Dagnall should also have buried a free header, which drifted just wide. I can't remember Ipswich having any clear chances until Rose finally got us level (showing Harewood how to finish), but should've scored straight after when Edwards (I think) blazed one over on the right side of the 6 yard box.

Overall then we dominated and could've won comfortably had Harewood and Dagnall buried any of a glut of good chances, but it wasn't to be and a point is better than nothing at a team revived under Big Mick. Thought Harewood despite his profligacy worked really hard and held the ball up superbly, he really has upped his game recently and offers so much more to the team than Davies did in his last few months with us. Other than for the goal, we generally defended well and have only conceded once in the last 3 games. McNulty again looked solid and Stonesy despite a couple of hairy moments put in a great shift again. Him and Rose are going to be stars in the not too distant future. The only player who I thought was fairly poor was, surprisingly, Perkins, who misplaced too many passes for my liking but still put in loads of his terrier-like challenges.

Flitcroft has started well, and the players are certainly putting in better performances under him so far, but he is right to be thinking about bringing in a goal-scoring striker (where he is planning to get one from I don't know). We missed far, far too many chances on Saturday that a striker such as Bogdanovic would've buried with no questions asked. I like Harewood and Dagnall but they aren't going to bag more than 10-12 between them for the rest of the season, and if we are to stay up we have to start taking our chances in front of goal. For now, our defence looks solid and for me we need to go all out and get a goal-scoring striker (again, don't know where from or how) - either that or give Rosey a start or two and see what he can do in a full game. Over to you Flicker.
Oh, and tickets for t'Hull game are a tenner for season ticket holders and £15 for non-season ticket holders. Get yourselves over to the KC this weekend weather/time/location permitting, a big away following and another win can only boost the team's morale further.

Thanks for an excellent match report, better written than some professional efforts I've seen.

Some Ipswich fans thought Perkins was the difference though!

Much appreciated Dave, I'm very opinionated and like to have my say whilst trying not to be too biased

He did play pretty well overall to be fair, and that just goes to show how good we were if the worst thing I could find about the performance (other than our poor finishing) was Perkins misplacing a more-than-usual amount of passes. If the team can keep this level of commitment and drive up then we will stay up with no problems. We just need a goalscorer, and may already have one in Rose.
