If anyone is still moaning and calling for our manager to be sacked if you didn't know already we have won six of the last nine league games and have been playing well.
I want to ask ONE simple question about the Oldham game.
Do you think the biggest mistake was the shape of the team? i.e. We usually play 4-3-3 with three central midfielders but instead we went into a game (battle) light in midfield. We had the usual three with Luis behind them so our usual balance was upset.
Rodgers made that mistake, yes, but like the rest of us he is/was entitled to expect better from the 11 selected. The passing was awful. I don't slate any of the players or manager though, i'm a supporter. Our very good, determind manager will learn from it like some of the players.
Anyone SLATE Coates after the City game in August? No.
Come on reds.
SIX wins out of NINE

And I said a ball winner, a box to box, and an advanced playmaker
So take that mr - sarcastic - rolley eyed smiley (see your response to my first post, you claimed I had said the same as you!)

Not a fan.... Now that is funny.
I couldn't imagine anyone wasting their time discussing on 606 on a windup. Most people on this board never go to games or may do once in their lifetime but someone who goes to most home games is not a fan. I guess the keyboard fan is the way forward. But tell me this, if all fans were like most of u who never attend games, I wonder how much gate revenue we would have. Anfield would b deserted.

You think Gerrard has been playing box to box? I have to disagree there. He has been much more disciplined sitting deep and dictating play and once again is back to displaying the great passing range he has but which got lost when he was pushed up behind the striker. For me he's doing more of a Xabi Alonso role than a Roy Keane role.

I understand what your saying, but I did allow in my post for the fact gerrard is playing long balls.
Box to box does not exclude him from making these, however his assists and goals statistics support the fact he is getting to the edge of the opposition box, and we have all seem him sitting/getting back to ours and making his crunching tackles when the opposition have posession.
That's the very definition of box to box, as opposed to lucas (who does sit deep permanantley to cover for the wing backs and try to regain the ball for us if we are broken against) box to box doesn't mean no deep balls, it means he plays between the 18 yard boxes as necessary, and is an integral part of an invertable midfield three! Infact, transitionally its the most important role in the team, hence stevie playing it!

Yeah, I still have to disagree. Watch Stevie in his earlier days and you'll see box to box, whilst he still covers a lot of ground in all areas of the pitch, he preserves himself a lot better now and refrains from making runs box to box. He's more like a playmaker, an attack starter, for a lack of a better phrase. Check out Hamann's comments about Gerrard when he talked about Michael Johnson where he says about Gerrard not being clever with his game when young, running around too much whereas now he knows how to preserve himself.

The players positions are zonal. That's why people have started saying "false 9" all of a sudden. The end.

Looking at most of the comments and the arguing, I can see that my original comments on the whole were largely agreed with.
We played two midfielder's and Suarez ahead of them and nobody can make a case for Suarez playing that role the same as a Henderson or Shelvey who would have a natural instinct to track back when needed.
We made a mistake, should have won anyway and since then Suarez has been left of a front three (like Ajax) so we can continue with a more SOLID three CM's or a DM, CM and AM if you like.

I agree on the positions played but not that it was a mistake. Internationals and some of the best kids in the country against League One opposition struggling for survival in their league and recently had just sacked their manager. The players underperformed and when you underperform, you more often than not, lose.

I agree we should have won but my individual opinion is that we would have been more likely to win with one small change.

True but then would we have performed against Arsenal and City like we did if that change was there? Would Gerrard have been so go in the past two games without the rest?
