An interesting article on him in the Football League paper today.
The headlines state that he wants to say goodbye to Burton with a promotion and the article does indicate that this is likely to be his last season with us. We all know that contract talks have stalled but the paper describes how the vultures, including Derby County, are lurking and intend to pounce in the summer!
He says that he is happy at Burton but wants to test himself at higher levels to see how far he can go. He gives a lot of credit for his, and the team's, success this year to Gary and his teammates.
Another thing that I had not realised - Jacques has played more times for the Brewers in the League than anybody else. He is also our 5th highest goal scorer of All time.
Well worth a read if you can get hold of a copy.

I do know what you mean Emnez. I find him truly exasperating. He has undoubted talent when he wants to use it but unfortunately goes missing for long periods in the game.
I did think that he played well yesterday though with the Millers defenders being very scared of him.

Thank you for that Foxy. Interesting. It's great that we have this feature on the forum with intelligence on what is going on at the club and with individual players being shared.
I'm with Emnez on this one. 'Flatters to deceive', 'an enigma' and 'unrealised potential' are expressions I would add next to his name.
He has had a good season but that shouldn't blind us to seasons that have gone before. Remember his strop at being on the bench (for being garbage) last season (I think) where he tweeted that it was an absurd decision because he considered himself 'the best player at the club'.
And he went walkabout and was not contactable during one summer giving the club no indication of his plans (resulting in us signing players on the assumption he had gone) only to eventually sign saying he had 'unfinished business'. I translated that as his agent had failed to find anyone interested in him.
I don't blame him for wanting to better himself. If he applies himself properly and consistently he could play at a higher level. League 1 perhaps but no higher.
To be fair he seems to have knuckled down this season but he has been rubbish during the majority of his time with us (and I have seen the majority of his games home and away). Like Emnez, I wouldn't be that fussed if he went. GR seems to be able to sign some decent players these days and a replacement would be easily found.
5th highest scorer of all time? Would that not be 5th highest league scorer?

"5th highest scorer of all time? Would that not be 5th highest league scorer?"
Not according to the report. It definitely said 'of all time'.
That said: I have checked. The official site shows he has scored 24 goals for us. That means he would not make the list in Rex Pages' book which shows that the 22nd highest scorer had managed to score 41 goals. Sorry for the duff information - perhaps the report came from Jacques publicist!!

Hello everyone, I might have met some of you in the pub pre the York game. If so then you know who I am.
With regards to the League Paper article I have typed it out for the new Brewers fan's website which I now moderate (ok only a little plug). Have a read -you will see that it is a shoddily put together piece considering that it made page 2 of the Paper. Page 2? That's what I thought... we don't normally rate that highly as far as their editor is concerned. And I agree with it's obvious mistake about his goal scoring record and it reads like a cut and paste job - to me it is a good guess that it comes from someone like his publicist, the interesting thing is that the person had the influence to get it placed there... Have a read-go on!

Okay so he's had a decent season but it has taken him four season to have it!
For me he is one of the most electric players in the League when he turns up, when he doesn't he is a liability that GR sticks by through thick and thin 'just in case'.
GR has already brought some very, very good players into the squad I am sure he will continue to do so regardless if Mags is here or not, but hats off to his agent who is already touting him around the leagues!

Maybe we can throw Jimmy Phillips & Cleveland Taylor as a bonus to whoever wants Mags.

I don't think Phillips will get much of an opportunity this season Pez. Taylor has had a couple of good games and has contributed to where we are in the League, but again I don't think he's quite at the standard GR needs.

I agree totally with Nora's comment. The LP and its sister paper the NLP have a long history of stirring up hornets nests where BAFC are concerned. In the NLP they rarely mentioned us in a positive context, They enjoyed fuelling speculation that Nigel was off to another club. In the late 90's they even ran story implying that Chesterfield had sacked John Duncan for the sole purpose of making way for NC ...utter rubbish.
When we won the BSP we were their red favourites to be the first club to go straight back down.
Good luck to Jacques whether stays or goes, he produced some magic moments allbeit not enough of them. If he is hell-bent on leaving then he has given GR at 3 months notice of needing to bring in a replacement.

Jacques is the fifth highest scorer in the Football League with 17, one behind Aaron Webster and two short of Greg Pearson, though by my calculations he now shares the honour with Billy Kee after Saturday. Calvin Zola is up to 22 with Shaun Harrad still way out in front with 31.

Done a recount (using a more reliable site) and I now make the score
Shaun - 31, Calvin 24, Billy 21, Greg and Jacques 19 each, Aaron 18.
