Liverpool suffered a miserable defeat away to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds played awfully in the first half as Southampton took complete control, taking the lead as early as the sixth minute. Gaston Ramirez crossed in for Jay Rodriguez to head down to Morgan Schneiderlin to roll it in.
As Liverpool struggled to cope with the Saints' play, the home side should have scored one or two more before they actually did get the second. Rickie Lambert struck a free kick poorly but had a huge slice of fortune as the ball hit Daniel Sturridge in the Liverpool wall and wrongfooted Brad Jones as it rolled in.
But Liverpool gave themselves some hope in first half injury time as Philippe Coutinho smashed the ball in after Sturridge's shot had been blocked.
In the second half, Liverpool looked much better after Lucas replaced the struggling Joe Allen at half time. They poured forwards and put pressure on Southampton, but it was the home side who killed the tie off with 10 minutes to go as Rodriguez ran through the Liverpool defence and, after seeing his first effort parried by Jones, ran up and slotted it in from close range.
The result leaves Liverpool in seventh place as Everton leapfrog them, and with Arsenal also winning away to Swansea City it puts a big dent in their hopes of qualifying for Europe next season.

I love the posts at the beginning of this thread, were all the plastic's are praying for a City win,and claiming we were only winning due to the ref having a mare, but yet failing to mention that we had a perfectly good goal chalked off. What a bitter bunch you are.
