a midfield role?
I've had several discussions with a well known Liverpool fan here in recent weeks which have centered around the 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 issue involving Suarez (when Sturridge plays)
I feel we are weak in midfield and this has been proved right again this weekend.
Coutinho, Sturridge and Downing with Suarez behind is too forward thinking. It didnt work initially against Spurs and we lost at Mansfield playing the same way.
It ends up like a 4-2-4 from the first whistle.
I dont mind who plays in midfield but a striker will NOT play the same way when asked to play in the AM/CM role.
Lucas, Gerrard and Henderson with...
Coutinho/Downing, Sturridge and Suarez is fine.
Suarez plays well from the left.
Dont expect us to start with anything other than a strict 4-3-3 away to Villa in two weeks.
Anyone still happy for Suarez to play....

I think on paper its our best team...not on the field

On the field it has proved to be the case also and it's still in its infancy.

Against Swansea's reserves & Wigan
And even Wigan found their way to our goal easily...quite a few times too

Find away, we scored goals and won. As I said it's still in its infancy with some things to iron out but it has worked well so far.

Its Suarez that unbalances it imo....and you cant iron Suarez out.

It hasn't prioved that way so far. I think we are far more strong when we have three in midfield and three up front. The very fact that Lucas didnt start meant that Allen, Gerrard AND Henderson should have started. We were overrun, again, playing THAT formation with Suarez as an honourary midfield player.

This may sound daft to some, but away from home i would go 4-3-3 with Sturridge on the bench every day of the week.
Simply because he doesn't hold the ball up. At Anfield he would start because the onus is on Liverpool to attack, but away Suarez on his own for me.

I thought away to City Sturridge held the ball up better than anyone has done this season so far.

I disagree.
" The very fact that Lucas didnt start meant that Allen, Gerrard AND Henderson should have started."
I agree.
"Suarez as an honourary midfield player."
Suarez wasn't playing in midfield, he was playing second striker. I feel this is his best position.

Ok he was playing behind the striker but we were playing away to a team who were more predominantly playing 4-3-3 and we got beaten easily which is gutting as we were making a push for the top four.

I know. As you say, Gerrard and Allen should have never played as a two against them.
