I see what you are saying but remember Blackburn got promoted to the top division after Chelsea yet they won the league in 1995. And remember that at the start of the 90's Liverpool were the dominant side not United and Liverpool were continuing to spend big.

What I'm saying is that with the money spent by Chelsea in the ten year period before RA arrived they really should have put up a better fight of challenging for the league at least once wouldn't you agree? Blackburn managed it after all. Chelsea had good enough players before RA arrived to make a proper title challenge but it never really materialised for one reason or another. Would you agree?

The figures prove that in the 90's Chelsea were the higher spenders out of the two clubs. Chelsea only really stopped spending big two seasons before RA arrived because Bates had taken them to the brink financially. In those same two years United spent big on Rio, RVN and Veron which took them above Chelsea in the spending stakes. But during the 90''s Chelsea spent more season on season and in total during that decade. So the argument your fellow poster put forward that Chelsea were light years behind United in the spending stakes before RA arrived has proved to be incorrect as they spent very heavily in the vast majority of the ten years before RA arrived and ten years is more than enough time to make yourself a huge force if you are spending big.

As I said, one or two of the older Chelsea fans confirmed you were founded before 2003, I was as shocked as the majority of the Chelsea fans!
