Genuine (Hypothetical) Question

For the purpose of this gentle whimsy let us pretend that your match v Chelsea next weekend is not postponed (psst - It is)

Would you rather rest your first teamers for the 2nd leg in Switzerland to benefit your top 4 chances or go all out v Basel in the hunt for a trophy?

The reason i ask is that Arsenal receive a lot of criticism for placing such a high importance on achieving CL football, often at the expense of other potential trophies (FA Cup this season being a prime example)

Would admission that you value CL football over a potential trophy mean possibly Arsenal should receive maybe a little less criticism if one wishes to remain on the right side of hypocrisy?

Of course the sensible solution would be for UEFA to give the Europa League winners a spot in the CL the next season but i realise the words 'sensible' and 'UEFA' don't necessarily belong on the same page

I do not intend to wum, just curious as to your priorities as fans of a nice club like Spurs

"So how have you managed to splash quite a lot of cash in recent years if you have only been in the CL once?"

Because Spurs are a VERY WELL-RUN club.
NET transfer expenditure for the past 4-5 seasons has been < 2m per season. The wage bill is probably similarly managed.

Apologies, my knowledge of your current financial state is approximately zero.

But we are just as reliant on CL money and the attraction to our club for big name players.

Spurs are starting to do to Real what we are doing to Barca.

How long before you get Real Madrid spokesmen coming out and complaining about paying too much for your players?

How DARE the selling club try to get as much money as possible for something they'd rather keep.

At least half of the 2011 CL piggy trough was used in land purchase for new WHL.
Having not seen the full 2012 financial report yet, we assume that the reason for the loss last yr is for similar reasons.

ENIC are no doubt intending to finance the building of new WHL with near-zero dependence on CL participation.

Sounds a bit like how we needed constant CL money to help pay off the Emirates?

Madrid will get Levyed.
Any key Spurs player they desire now, depends on Spurs not getting into the CL, and attempting a summer of unsettling.

And even then, they still get done.

As I said, ENIC have no doubt planned for construction of new WHL with no CL participation whatsoever.

I like the plans for the new stadium to basically eat White Hart Lane

"I like the plans for the new stadium to basically eat White Hart Lane"

The rumours are that ENIC are unhappy with the timescales.
And may look at/for a Wembley rental so that the redevelopment can happen much faster.
