My time in the squared circle!!!

I had recently took up the sport of which I have been a long time fan of.

It is a lot different being in the ring than it is making judgments outside of it and It has in some respects giving me a greater appreciation of what pro boxers go through.

Training was very tough, would spar several guys a day, some outweighing me by 4-5 stone, picked up a couple injuries along the way, but fought through the pain to make it to fight night.

Everyday I would go home and lay in bed and could not sleep till because my jaw would ache from all the punches I took throughout the day.

My offence was great, I had great power, fast hand and mixed up my punches well, my defense was not too good though, struggled to get my head movement right, guard was a bit static but moved well when I remembered to do so.

Fight night, was nerve wracking, not because of the person I was facing but knowing this was it, and the expectation of the crowd.

Had a great warm up, was hitting hard and fast, but was probably a bit too tense.

Started of well, but got caught with some silly shots I should have seen coming, luckily I have a granite chin, but did not react well to the shots.

I was down on the cards, I did not keep my composure well and rushed my shots, didn't put the combos together I had worked on and my footwork was static.

I could here the crowd getting behind my opponent, my mind was gone and I could not think straight, a far cry from sparring when I was much more fluid and inventive with my style.

I didn't have time or the sense at that time to come up with a game plan against my younger opponent, I was getting out boxed, but I was not going to be out fought.

Went out the next round determined to throw big punches and a lot of them and just walk through anything that was coming back.

It paid off, landed some huge rights that took the fight out of my opponent, he wanted to run, hold buy time, racked up the point and it ultimately won me the bout.

Anyone else been in a fight?

It was close, but I landed more in the flurries, he just had the single punches.

Was scored on clean punching.

Luckily for him I had an off day.

Very hard to keep your composure in there.

How did you go about getting yourself into the boxing world?

I've looked endlessly round my area and can't find anything.

No problem, and good luck.

I have kickboxed at Pro AM level and your right when you say that it's totally different to Sparing. The crowd, adrenaline and atmosphere can be draining during the first few fights, after that it gets easier to block out the environment and concentrate.

It was a big shock to me, I spared for twice as long and felt relatively fresh. Pulled out some nice combinations had some fast hands and moved well.

Come fight night I felt exhausted after two rounds probably throwing fewer shots than sparring. My hands felt heavy and slow, my timing was out, and I couldn't think straight.

Not sure if I will fight again though, it was just something that was on my bucket list, but a part of me wants to show that I'm a better boxer than that.
