What's the betting

Fat Ashley and his puppets claim to have made a megga pounds offer for a striker on the last day of the window but, damn it, we just missed out.

Funny how we heard this about 12m N'zogbia last time around, yet we aren't willing to pay nine million now.

Where are these wow signings we were promised when Carroll left?

I'm not dissing the players we have brought in, but hardly took my breath away.

Of course how many of us took them at their word when they said the Carroll millions would be spent on players? I wouldn't believe any of them if they told me the Tyne was wet.

Granted there's time left, I won't hold my breath.

I don't actually think Ashley promised the money would go on players mate, I'm pretty sure they said it would "stay in the club".

A load went on new players' agents, wages, signing-on fees, etc.

A load went on the new training centre, under-soil heating and large indoor playing pitches, aswell as new players' area to relax, have meals, play table-tennis, darts, etc.

All this as money spent, but of course only about £4.5m on actually players' sale cost.

Under soil heating at the training ground will be as impressive as St James park was in the championship.
