The old Home Internationals were brilliant and allowed the Scotland and England fans to meet and show how much respect they had for each other's team. In fond memory of those days I present this offering:
When God Created Scotland
---------------------------------------
Gabriel and God were sat on a cloud
In the early days of Creation
Just chewing the fat and deciding what
God was going to do for each nation
Gabe checked the list of the countries to make
And as you well know there are lots
He leaned back on the cloud and asked the Boss
“So what do we do for the Scots?"
It took a short while for God to reply
When he did so he gave a big smile
“This was a bit of a tricky one Gabe
I’ve been thinking of this for a while
It’s too cold to use the tropics design
And too warm to be like Tibet
I’d have stayed awake all night over this
But I haven’t created nights yet
The Scots will be the best engineers
That the world will ever behold
The bravest of men to defend their land
Hairy and fearsome and bold
They’ll have riches of oil under the sea
And riches of coal underground
For relaxation I’ll give them wee sticks
To hit a wee white ball around
Snow-capped mountains and purple hills
There’ll be stag and deer on the moor
The heather will ring with the call of the grouse
And golden eagles will soar
Crystal clear rivers will flow from the hills
Where silver salmon will leap
The finest cattle will graze and breed
In the lush green glens so deep"
God closed his eyes and said “OK Gabe
I think that I’ll take a wee rest"
Gabe wondered why Scotland was getting so much
Why they were getting the best
He put down his jotter and said to the Boss
“You must really like them a lot"
“Not really" said God “It’s a balancing thing
Look at the neighbours they’ve got"
