Day 2. So far so GOOD.

One day to go to the next test at Lords, & following on from Trent Bridge,
Billy the Trumpeter will be 'banned' again

Ridiculous.

2009 & Billy & Vic, the Barmy Army 'leader' were also banned from the Headingley test for being potential distractions from the cricket ...
Had to be boring grumpy moaning groaning YCCC didn't it.
various Australian venues have also taken this stance in the past But !
Talk back radio here in Perth(W.A.) discussed the merits of having Billy play his trumpet, & how he was missed during the Trent Bridge test !
The radio host was very upbeat & was looking forward to having the trumpet sounding again as soon as possible
They mentioned......

Oil drum clatter & whistles in the Windies....
hundreds of home made drums when we play in India,
& Billy can't play,
'Jerusalem'
'Coronation Street'
'The Great Escape' to name a few....
WTF
Anyone would think Oil, Jarvis, Clibbins & Hough are running the cricket board...
Bring back Billy, to hopefully play the 'last post' during the final over of the 3rd test, when we have retained the Ashes from the Colonial 'lags'

Aye, I turn off the coverage to tweet and another one bites the dust.
Just as well that the Aussies are as bad as us at batting

Darn/Wakey,

Whats up? - Stop panicking, we've already scored (225 for 4) more than the Aussies will get.

Bug Argh.
another capitulation at the end of the 1st day's session.
(Glad I was asleep )

Good job 'Ding Dong' is doing the bizz...otherwise it would look pretty bleak.

Never a dull moment during a Test Match

After 28-3 I think we should be happy with a score around 300. Again I think Root got a raw deal, having been given out when he wasn't in the 1st test, again he is given out despite what was inconclusive video replay...how did the ball hit the pad, come back and hit the bat, then change course and just miss the wickets...it obviously hit the bat first...or at least it was so close no one could really prove he was out LBW, so he should have been given the benefit of the doubt.

As for Bairstow being 'lucky'...it was a no ball ffs, the bowler encroached too far down the wicket (cheating)..if he had been 6" further back, the ball would have been 6" further back and likely as not Bairstow would have got his bat on it in time...

Anyroads...what about Yorkshire ? 617-5 declared (Lees 275 not out); Derbyshire 94-5...and that's without Root, Bairstow and Bresnan...

Jacko,

In the Root situation, and particularly after the DRS nonsense at Trent Bridge, the third umpire has to back the on field umpire, unless there is conclusive proof that he's made the wrong call. Unlucky for Root maybe, but it was the right call. You have to trust the umpires.

I can see Australia making somewhere between 400-450 with the bat so the tail will need to wag furiously this morning. Unless we learn to deal with the fuller ball in our second innings Australia are looking favourites to square the series. Hopefully not of course, but we blew a BIG chance yesterday after winning the toss. Pretty much a perfect day of captaincy from Clarke

Novak, I know what you're saying..but what happened to the 'giving the batsman the benefit of the doubt'..the umpire couldn't possibly have seen what happened, it was a bad call and Root was right to question it..but the crunch for me was the video even at single frame didn't concur with the umpires' decision..thus it should have been not out.

Anyway, let's hope our tail wags today and we rattle up 360-380...That Steve Smith though, how on earth is he getting wickets ? Swanny must be salivating over this wicket..

Wish I could have afforded a ticket for OT, it's a great series so far...

...and footy starts 2 weeks tomorrow.....
