I think all teams should learn from England. The way they priotise tests, prepare for tests and how they practice. there is alot teams like Aus, Pak and Ind can learn from this.

Whom are you trying to please by focusing more on tests? The sponsors? They think it is better to go with IPL. The spectators have already gone to T20. I suspect the viewers age group is gradually shifting from 30's to 40's and it will go higher with each passing decade. Unfortunately the viewers in higher age group do not have much buying power as the young generation does. Such is the reality. I think BCCI is smarter in gradually dumping test cricket. Bad for the game. Test cricket is quickly becoming dad's game (perhaps grandpa's game).

India are rightly #1 in the world in ODI cricket. They are world champions are they not? and recently really impressed me in the champions trophy
However to say they are the second best test team in the world is generous.
I think if England win over Australia with a margin of 3-0 or higher (almost certain atm), then they will overtake India in the rankings. Truly deserved imo

India above England in the test rankings, what a farce

In the last 7 tests: England 6-1 India

The Pot Noodle generation will soon tire of 20/20, insisting that this long form of the game be reduced to 10/10.

The slow cooker that is test match cricket, with its fuller flavour, will be around long after microwave cricket has blown its fuse.

I want to see a 5/5 game introduced with one stump, blindfold bowlers, tennis bats (stringy things) and golf balls... only 3 fielders per side.

That would get the viewing figures up

virudagreat, In the short time since I joined this forum, I have noticed that you always make very balanced comments.

I believe SA and England are the best teams at the moment in test cricket. I have my doubts about SA when Kallis retires.

VoiceofCricket makes good points too. After all, the type of cricket most fans wish to watch is the one that should be considered the most popular format. I wonder for how long test cricket will survive if viewership keeps dwindling. I still see decent attendance for test matches in England and Australia, but nowhere else.

England and SA are a cut above the rest.

After that it's anyone's guess. If Pakistan played more test cricket they could make it to 3rd position with ease but with no home cricket and teams like West Indies and India cancelling test matches on them they won't get the chance.

Maybe rightly England should be above India in test cricket but they lost a lot of points in drawing against NZ away. They actually nearly lost the series which would have lost them a lot more points.

Unfortunately test cricket is dying. The only 5match series now are the Ashes. There has been agreement between the ECB, BCCI and CA that these nations will play at least 4match series but I wonder how long will this last.

This idea that we should learn from England is a non starter with me.

End of the day it is the demand for the game. In India the demand is for ODI and T20, there is not that much demand for test cricket. The BCCI are only doing what the paying public want, there is no harm in that.

SA are defo the best test side but very poor in the other formats, this can be said the same with England.

India are outstanding in ODI and T20 and not to bad at test cricket, well in the top 3 in my opinion.

England will be number 2 after this series....
