Favourite Gomes moment

With all the recent rumours about the big Brazilian heading back to PSV - to be honest, I'd almost forgotten he was still on our books. When's the last time he turned out for us? Wasn't he looking at a permanent move to Hoffenheim recently? - it got me a little bit nostalgic for our wildly unpredictable yet endearingly fallible former No 1.

Whether it was his ritual of jumping up to tap the posts before games, his out of this world and scarcely believable ability to throw one of those long arms and prevent what seemed like a certain goal; or his uncanny ability to go from the sublime to the ridiculous to the sublime and back to the ridiculous again. As a Spurs fan, you never felt entirely comfortable with Gomes in goal, in the way you do with the steady influence of Friedel, Cudicini or Lloris, it always felt as if the next howler or moment of madness was just around the corner. Even when he was making those horrendous mistakes, there was a certain flamboyance and creativity to them - they weren't ordinary mistakes, they got ever more inventive and outrageous each time.

I'm sure everyone's got their own comedy Gomes moment - and there's plenty to choose from. The howler against Fulham early on his career, his moment of madness against Inter at the San Siro that saw us reduced to ten men and subsequently thrust a certain Mr Bale onto the world stage, that Lampard shot he let squeeze under him at Stamford Bridge (even if it shouldn't have actually been a goal, it was still a pretty awful ricket), the equally dodgy dealing of Ronaldo's long shot against Real Madrid, his zero to zero to hero moment against Chelsea at the Lane, when he was at fault for Drogba's equaliser and then gave away a late penalty, only to brilliantly claw away the resulting spot-kick.

But perhaps his finest moment of madness came in the home game against Blackpool, an extremely disappointing 1-1 draw that virtually ended our chances of qualifying for the Champions League for the second year in a row. In a matter of minutes, he saved a penalty, conceded a penalty, and then saw an Adam penalty put past him. Just a barmy and bizarre few minutes that pretty much summed up Gomes' Spurs career - moments of brilliance followed by moments of utter rush to the head stupidity.

All those mistakes in his final season with us, and the ones he made in his first season with us too, overlook the contribution he made in getting us Champions League qualification in 2009-10. Fantastic performances against Pompey away, Sunderland at home - including a brilliant penalty save from Darren Bent (albeit he'd conceded the penalty in the first place) - a match-winning performance against Arsenal and Chelsea at home, and a solid performance in the away win at City as we defied all the odds to finish fourth, holding off the threat of not just City, but Liverpool and Villa too.

His penalty saving skills were never in doubt, as we found out to our detriment the year before he arrived, and his distribution could sometimes be brilliant and could sometimes be awful. With his elastic, octopus arms, he was capable of launching the ball absurd distances well over the halfway line, but equally capable of launching the ball straight to an opponent. And I've never seen a goalkeeper look so unsure from corners and set-pieces, he could flap like no other. I used to dread going to places like Bolton, Stoke and Blackburn with Gomes in goal. A recipe made for disaster.

But I'll miss him when he goes. He was a very likeable player who seemed to really care about the club and always gave his all, even if his all wasn't always good enough. He also had a great rapport with the fans, something a goalkeeper always seems more likely to have, being so close to the supporters. So, one last time, 'Heurelho Gomes, you are the love of my life, Heurelho Gomes, I'd let you sleep with my wife...' etc. Classic song. Legendary player, sometimes for all the wrong reasons.

What's your favourite Gomes moment/calamity/wonder save?

Gomes has been very ill treated by the club but he has had chances to move on but his wage demands have stopped any potential moves.

I always found it when he cried, or at least appeared to be crying, at an injury.

The amount we've wasted on his wages winds me up, though.

His performance vs arsenal in 2010 at WHL. He was awesome that night just when we needed him, he also helped me win my sun dream team mini league and £120 that season, he was the top-scoring keeper!

Unbelievable shot-stopper on his day, simply amazing.

Think he took three of our players out in one game 'defending' corners within about five minutes

Legendary crying

Alas, I shall remember him most for the Nani debacle I think...

He took a leaf out of Big Erik's (away?) debut book and grew it into a forest
