Heres some news that will settle the nerves of any NIreland fans who may be feeling a bit anxious ahead of the Faroes visit to Windsor Park this week.
The Faores have an unbelievably bad away record for competetive matches.
They have only ever won THREE times away from home in a competitve match ( Malta, San Marino and Luxembourg). The last away victory against the might of Luxembourg was back in 2001.!!! Still they did manage to beat their neighbours The Shetland Islands 5-1 in Scotland back in 1930.
In fact they are currently on a 17 game losing streak for away matches. Yes that is 17 (Seventeen) straight away defeats!!! Their last away point was acheived against Cyprus back in 2004.
Surely, NIreland are capable of beating this lot. Anything less than a comprehensive victory for the North will be very embarrasing.
Faroes dismal away record

Great goal in fairness I think he will be well wound up for the Faroes and will probaly score a goal or two.

This match will be a classic case of scoring early (anytime before half time) to settle any NIreland nerves.
The thing about the Faroes unlike San Marino , Andorra etc.. is they never seem to throw in the towel when they go behind. Big side full of tough Vikings.
I'd be very surprised if they managed to come away from Belfast with a draw. A 1-0 defeat is the best they can probably hope for.

Dude, have you looked at our own away record. It's pretty dismal also. We haven't beaten a higher ranked nation away from home in a competitive international since 1987. I wouldn't be slagging off any others teams away records.

We've still managed to qualify for 3 WC Finals and 1 Euro Championships in that time.
Who said i was slagging off the Faroe Islands results!!! I was just stating facts.
If anything i have admiration for the Faroes. They have a great fighting spirit and unlike San Marino and Andorra they usually run sides fairly close and always seem to lose by leaving in late goals due to inferior fitness levels as they are part-timers

ROGER:
Agree, all fairminded people have got to take their hats off to the Fair Ones! Imagine a wee place like that managing to beat Estonia and run Italy so close. Great inspiration to minnows everywhere including ourselves.
Having said that, we are really being set up for a fall if we dont beat them. Given our recent injuries, Im not exactly brimming with confidence. Also, I think Brian Kerr is a clever manager. Im afraid its a case of all body parts crossed, yes those too!
On the plus side, if we dont beat them maybe Nige will do the decent thing and fall on his sword, if he can find it, that is!
