I would be pretty disappointed if I was a Real fan, it's just one of those moments when going for the most prestigious players in the world will cost Real on the pitch.

IMO there is no way James will do the job Di Maria did last season even if he's a bit more of a galactico type player.

For United I'm delighted a world-class player is joining and he'll do very well but they need more quality particularly in midfield.

The fee is a lot, a good deal for Real.

Hiya AU - good summer?

Hard to understand why we overcomplicate matters, but the price was hard to refuse. Don't mean to pee on your party, but I think we've taken advantage of Woodward's predicament and that you guys have seriously overpaid.

As for James, yeah, we'll have to see if he can put in the shift off the ball that was such an important part of ADM's contribution last year, but as far as the attack goes, I really like what I've seen of James, especially how fast he makes decisions in tight spaces. He's got super-quick feet to match that too. reckon he's going to be fun to watch.

Hi too Dan, nice to see you guys back for the start of the season. Yeah, everyone's saying Messi worked harder yesterday than he had done in a long time. A lot of talk about your new madrileño kiddo too.

Wump, didn't watch Valencia, but from the highlights they did seem to have a bit of a helter-skelter game, but I imagine that was to be expected of both teams this early in the season, considering the number of changes they've both made. Your goal came from a lovely first touch passing exchange from a corner.

Henrik, good to see you guys get off to a flying start. Out of all the sides who could aspire to that 4th CL spot (should be between you, Athletic, Sevilla and Valencia imo), I think Villarreal might just be the ones to nab it.

A lot might hinge on each side's European campaign. Valencia have the advantage in that respect, but there've been so many changes that they might take time to settle; Sevilla have managerial stability, but a lot of new personnel; CL might well prove too big a distraction for Athletic if they get past Napoli; and you guys seem to have strengthened without changing more than what's needed. Do you see yourselves bringing a new striker before the close of the window or is the squad closed now?

Not to mention Ivan Rakitić.

The guy has some vision on him, he doesn't control the game as well as Xavi but he does his own, his long range passing is second to none, he offers more direct play if necessary, long range shooting and here comes the beauty part, we finally have a cmf who sticks his foot in, covers Alves's back and recuperates more balls in 3 games than Cesc did the whole year.

Gotta keep it up vs Vilarreal, that's gonna be some proper test next Sunday

Thanks ioag. I agree with you about James. He looks like a top player whenever have wached him. Whatever people think, Madrid have a better team than they had last year.

Hello IOAG

How have you been? Yeah it's been a busy summer, just flashed by!

I'm absolutely delighted about signing Di Maria but I agree the transfer fee is about 20m too high, a great deal for Real who would have struggled to satisfy him as just a squad player.

In all honesty I am unsure about both Kroos and James.

James is a proper galactico (exciting, creative, skillful and capable of anything) but I found him on and off for Monaco so I'm not sure of his consistency even though there's no doubt about his quality.

I'm a lot more worried about Kroos. I think is a very good CM but his game is better suited to being an AM or the most forward of a midfield 3(IMO he's poor defensively but great in the final third) and for balance Real are better off with a more defensive player and Modric (IMO a superior CM in most regards) as the preferred two.

I suspect I could be proven horribly wrong but those are my initial thoughts.

Robles is a flat track bully.

Seriously though, his name keeps cropping up all over that report. Is he playing out wide now?
.................

for the u18s he has a free role up front

he'll play as a 9, 10 or outwide during the game
