Countdown to Summerslam

Hello Everyone - The Countdown Begins for Summerslam 2013 LIVE from the Staples Centre: Los Angeles.

Please post your thoughts / opinions / predictions for the upcoming PPV.

Summerslam is one of the original PPVs so WWE will hopefully double their efforts in terms of the calibre and quality of matches. Potentially it could be fantastic.

So far, the booking is as follows:

U.S Title: Dean Ambrose (c) vs Rob Van Dam
RVD won the 20 man rumble on Raw to bag himself a shot at the U.S title.

Dolph Ziggler / Kaitlyn vs Big E Langston / AJ
The influence of AJ continues to reside in the WWE. She teams with former NxT star Big E Langston to take on former friend Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn.

Bray Wyatt vs Kane (Inferno match)
The fantastic introduction of the Wyatt Family will continue when leader and eater of worlds Bray Wyatt takes on the Big Red Machine: Kane in the rare Inferno match.

Cody Rhodes vs Damien Sandow
Another interesting feud has developed between the former tag team, Rhodes Scholars after Sandow took down Cody to clinch the Money in the Bank briefcase at last months PPV.

Natalya vs Brie Bella
Total Divas has boosted the profile of the Bella Twins and one half, Brie goes one on one with the talented but wasted Natalya

Rumoured - Tag Team Titles: The Shield vs Big Show and Mark Henry
The Shields rise to the top may come crashing down when they face the worlds largest athlete and the worlds strongest man.

CM Punk vs Brock Lesnar (The Best vs the Beast)
Two different styles but two men who flourished under the management of Paul Heyman. This should be explosive.

World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Christian
Christian continues to be a favourite with the crowds and he has bagged himself 'One More Match' for the World Heavyweight Championship. He comes up against the talented Alberto Del Rio.

WWE Championship: John Cena (c) vs Daniel Bryan (HHH as s.guest ref)
As if the title alone wasn't enough to spice this one up - we now know that HHH has put himself forward as special guest referee and with Vince McMahon plotting the downfall of Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton lurking with his Money in the Bank briefcase, this one is anyones guess.

Kind Regards

The Great Metropolis

I think HHH will interfere. Wouldn't be surprised if Bryan gets screwed.

Bryan to win and Snoreton to cash in.

Would have said Orton cash in but the way WWE have openly talked about it on a weekly basis suggests to me it won't happen on Sunday, I think Bryan will beat Cena via a roll up. Cena is having elbow surgery afterwards so I can't see him leaving with the title. Wyatt will manage to beat Kane because again Kane is going off to film See No Evil 2. The mixed tag match is a strange idea and I think AJ and Big E will win somehow. Could have been a good time to maybe do an 'open challenge' and bring back Victoria maybe? She was billed from Los Angeles when she was in WWE, could have been a nice idea. Christian to beat Del Rio and retire the next night I think the way they have been talking about Christian. Can't remember the other matches

....

I agree with that

I suppose Kane could win but is then attacked by the wyatt family leaving him out of action (to film)

Would Vince allow someone to leave as champion. The Vince of old wouldn't so i think Del Rio will retain

I can see orton or sandow cashing in and failing. They are saying "next champion" far too much with them both

They've built this Cena/Bryan match to where i can only see it transpiring one of two ways.

If Cena remains healthy after Summer Slam.... clean Cena victory/SS07 all over again. Bryan isn't a serious WWE championship contender, though he'll probably have the World Heavyweight Title all to himself by the time Survivor Series rolls around.

If Cena is off after Summer Slam.... Bryan wins, Orton cashes in, Cena intervenes on Bryan's behalf preventing Orton winning. Orton punts Cena - reaffirms heel turn next night. Beats Bryan for the title within the month.

And tbh, either of those outcomes is fine with me. I like Bryan much as the next guy, but i don't want to see him with the title. The way WWE book champions they don't truly believe in is horrible, look at Punk's reigns for christ sake. If he can be utilised to transition the belt from Cena to a heel Orton i'll accept that, otherwise i don't want him going near it anytime soon.

That's such a hot topic in the industry.

I think it's a mentality that goes back to the 70s/80s were the champions were huge men - the muscles of the industry.

You only have to read the wrestling autobiographies to see that many of them don't like the idea of 'smaller' guys reaching the top.

I, on the other hand think it's a farce and a stance that holds back truly talented wrestlers.

If we kept the mindset that dominatd the 80s then we wouldn't have seen the likes of Benoit, Guererro hold the belts.

People seem to be forgetting the most important thing - ability.

Bryan, Eddie and Benoit probably possess more ability than the last 10 wwe champions put together

Not forgetting Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart.

WWE is changing. Daniel Bryan will signify a huge change for the company which is what they are doing as trips slowly takes over. He fully deserves the title.

Metro, you misinterpreted why i don't want Bryan to be WWE champion. That probably is the reason WWE don't believe in certain individuals, and it's unfortunate, but if WWE can't commit to someone it makes it very hard for me to as a viewer. The idea that Bryan could ever be booked as more than either a transitional champion or a pitiful excuse for a long term champion is a fantasy i'm afraid.

Digby, that's optimistic thinking. CM Punk entered 2012 with alot more buzz than Bryan has now and WWE ended up first booking their own title as an irrelevance, then Punk himself. As i briefly touched on, this match reminds me of SS07 considerably when Orton came into the PPV with shed loads of hype, dirtsheets effectively declaring that match to be the passing of WWE's marketing face, and instead we got what we all didn't want to admit to ourselves. He probably will be WHC before the years out, he'll restore alot of credibility to that belt too, but he won't ever be a serious WWE champion.
