GOOD START

The Brewers start has really excited me ,and has got me thinking about automatic promotion ! ,but then i come back to earth a bit and say to myself we have eleven points towards safety another 39 pts to go 13 wins to keep our league status .My gut feeling is that we have a real chance this season to challenge for honours providing we get the run of the green with injuries ,suspensions , and referees etc .The squad in general looks to be strong ,although im still concerned about a young goalkeeper waiting in the wings should Lycett get a bad injury .Palmer and Reid together with Phillips are going to push the likes of Weir and Bell , with Diamond due back soon along with Kee we are going to have competition throughout the side . The next two home games are going to shape our season I feel .Oxford and Portsmouth on paper are much bigger clubs than us, and despite Portsmouth losing two at home already ,when you consider they were against the likes of Oxford and Chesterfield ,im pretty sure they will be in the mix come the end of the campaign . Two sides who have had poor starts and have suprised me are Northampton and Cheltenham our play off partners from last season and already ive written them off in the promotion race . Sides like Bury may be suprise packages and lets face it could easily have won at the pirelli the other week . It all boads well for yet another exciting season ,i just wish we could find a few more fans to get us a fan base of 5000 regulars through the turnstiles we deserve it .Come on lets promote our club more locally and get some noise in the ground like the next two opponents will do !!

What is also significant is that we are without 2 quite influential players (on their day) in Zander and Billy.

Though superb last year, Lee Bell isn't quite firing so far this season in my opinion. I would even go as far as saying that Matty Palmer should be ahead of him on the team sheet at present.

Palmer will blossom into a player capable of playing at a much higher level , he has that ability to find space ,control a football ,and pass to one of his own teammates . I predict a bright future for him , hopefully staying with us for a season or so whilst he learns his trade .

I'm not suprised we have started well, if you look at my positive posts pre-season and i've seen nothing to change my opinion that we can make the top 3 this season. Chesterfield look a good bet as was expected and Oxford are going a little better than i expected as are Wimbledon, Exeter and Southend. Of the rest pretty much as expected apart from Cheltenham, i think the loss of Jamie Cureton has hit them hard.Northampton i expected to struggle, having reached the play off final and agreed a ground share with Coventry for some odd reason the playing budget has been reduced making life very difficult for Ady Boothroyd. If we can maintain any sort of consistency we will be up there. We've hardly got out of first gear yet ! Plenty more to come with the squad Gary and Kev have assembled.
