Player Ratings

Szczesny - 7. Didn't have a huge amount to do but a few good saves and, reassuringly, no bonkers moments either.

Jenkinson - 7. Again, did what needed doing, misplaced a few passes in the first half but great work ethic in the second.

Mertesacker - 8. Had a very good game and made some great blocks at important times.

Koscielny - 7. A little rash in a few tackles but generally sound and worked well with Merte.

Gibbs - 7. Once again, didn't do much wrong. Solid if unspectacular.

Wilshere - 6. Quiet but was obviously carrying an injury and did what he could.

Ramsey - 7. Not quite as brilliant as in previous games but did well anyway, misplaced a few passes though

Rosicky - 7. Similar to Ramsey, quiet but did what was necessary and closed down well in the second half.

Walcott - 8. Made a lot of good runs going forward and was all over Rose. Good assist for the goal.

Cazorla - 7. Another one who was quieter than usual but still fairly neat and unlucky not to score with his free kick.

Giroud - 9. A class act today, going forward he was good but it was without the ball where he was especially impressive, worked hard to close down and track back rather than getting isolated.

Flamini - 8. Sound in the middle and outstanding attitude, very vocal and went to great lengths to close down and chase back. Impressive.

Monreal - 7. Did what was required at the back and wasn't really expected to press forward much.

Sagna - not really on the pitch long enough to do much!

On the whole, 8/10. Team performance largely greater than the sum of its parts, although lack of pressing in the first half was a bit concerning. Second half changed that and it was also nice to see a lot of counter-attacking, which we haven't really had for ten years since Wenger modified his tactical philosophy.
