Bute, you obviously never saw him play. He didn't make that many appearances for Wolves and to call him a legend is putting him the same category as the likes of Bull, Dougan, Richards.

He played for England, wolfie and was part of Wolves FA Cup and League winning teams. A "local lad" to boot. A bit more than "an average player".

Admitedly, I never saw Bert the Cat play, but surely this doesn't preclude me from recognising a player that was above average, especially as you seem to recognise future England internationals from 5 minutes play and 5000 miles distance.

Furthermore, wolfie, the "average player" that is Bert Williams was awarded the MBE by the Queen for services to football.

And further, furthermore, he made 420 appearance for Wolves.

Dougan made 258 appearance, Richards 385 appearances. Bull made more.

So based on appearance alone, Williams deserves to be called a legend.

Actually, Cyp, it was the late Barry Stobart that Wolfie was "eulogising" in his crass, back-handed style.

Of course, I should have known he was referring to Barry Stobart in an article about Bert Williams.
