We all know that in pro-wrestling, or sports entertainment , mic work is a very important element in how far a guy can go, some might even say THE most important.
I'm interested to see who you guys rate on the mic and who you would say are the very best, you can choose people from any promotion not just WWE.
My personal favourites are Punk, Jericho, Heyman and Wyatt but I also like some of HHH, Bryan, Sandow even Steph recently
So, who would you say are the best in the business?

"If anyone doubts The Rock is isn't the greatest there either too young and unfortunate to miss out on "attitude" or there simply idiots. "
That's incredibly arrogant.

In fact I can't even think of another person in the last 20 years whose had so many catchphrases go into the publics conscious outside of the industry than Rocks.

True, no individual has penetrated the mainstream using just a microphone like The Rock has. Not even Hogan.
But........ don't mistake predominantly guys with a library of catchphrases and a theoretical delivery for being fundamentally better at the art of promo cutting - just as wrestling has moved on from the days of juiced up physical specimens, the talking aspect of the sport has moved on from testosterone fuelled rants.
There's a variety of ways to connect with an audience

I think with the Rock, it always worked better when he had a "foil" alongside him, someone to bring down in a funny way, such as Gregory Helms (Hamburglar), Foley or the Big Show for instance.
As found out in the road to Wrestlemania last year, when working alone it can almost get painfully tiresome hearing about "rudeypoo candyasses" and "boots2asses" week in, week out. Yet give him a target to mock and yeah, he's excellent both in content and timing.
I always found the segments between Rock and Coach to be absolutely genius. The fact Coachman managed to keep a straight face (most of the time) deserves massive credit.

Rock was just as good with a foil or without during "attitude". Y2J, Austin and Kurt were also great on the mic but Rock was just too quick and just came off as effortlessly cool which was his character. He just destroyed everyone when it came to talking trash and entertaining.
He was at his very very best when he was Hollywood Heel Rock when he came back to beat Hogan again, then he retired Austin, then lost to Goldberg. He even put over Hurricane and Booker T whilst doing some of the best smack talk we'll ever see. His "Toronto Maple Leaf" promo is off the chain awesome. Just epic Heel stuff and it helps that he's got the greatest entrance video to a wrestler there has ever been.
As soon as he pulled out a guitar as much as he was booed the crowd ate it up. Watch his legendary "Sacramento" song. It's just another reason why he'll never be bettered on a mic or how to have a crowd totally eat out a persons hand.

Cheers Bumble,
I had to go and search some of his old promos on YouTube but I'm glad I did. I forgot how good his songs were
