I was thinking about the old firm derby, (I miss them, for me it's what makes football special) and one thing led to another and I started having a look at other rivalries in football round the world. There are hundreds but here are a couple that stood out to me:
Copenhagen vs Brondby IF - known as the "New firm" which is apparently a play on the Scottish OF we all know and love. Of course Aberdeen and Dundee Utd also used the "New firm" tag but I never really hear it being used.
In Greece Olympiacos vs Panathinaikos is known as the "derby of the eternal enemies" - that is a doozy of a name for a game of football
Buriram vs Muangthong Utd, in Thailand is called the "super big match". This made me
In England, a survey carried out in 2008 revealed that West Brom vs Wolves (black country derby) is the biggest English rivalry. This surprised me a little.
My second team Ajax have a fierce rivalry with feynoord which is called "De Klassieker".
These are just a couple that caught my eye, anyone got any other rivalries that have stuck with you for any reason?
