England - a lesson that keeps on teaching.

So, now it's clear Sturridge's injury was caused or at least exacerbated through 90 mins playing a pointless friendly against Germany which we lost (and were always going to lose) perhaps our illustrious manager should consider the club first when agreeing to our key players being part of the country squad.
The England team is the same pantomime horse it was 10 years ago, our 'by the fingernails' qualification for Brazil will only serve to delay the disappointment, the soul searching and the media witch-hunt that will arise once we're on the plane home again within weeks of arriving.

If the like of Carrick can withdraw from the England for a minor injury then we should ensure we do likewise. Players who insist on playing for the national team should be reminded who pays their salaries... and these are representing by institutions and fans who care little for a competition so much out of our league.

I guess the player is to blame ultimately. He is the one who knew he was carrying an injury...

Rodgers could try to force him to withdraw, but the England medical team still get the final say and he passed a fitbess test for that game and the Everton one. Injuries happen.

It's difficult to criticise a player who has such desire to play for his country but it does seem to be a case of what 'I' want when it comes to Sturridge.

It is the players fault, if he agreed to play while carrying an injury. It is not the fault of roy nor Brendan unless either were fully appraised of his injury. Sturridge appears to have great desire to further himself, which is commendable, (i.e. establish himself as an international), but perhaps his ego got the better of him here and he would have been wiser to rule himself out.

OP you should have used Gerrard as an example not Carrick. Your talisman has missed more England friendlies than anyone else.

Always gets fit for the next Prem game though so that's lucky.

I'm quite sure that Studge wanted and indeed asked to play the 90. Ironic really as he was awful and would have been better served continuing to score goals for Liverpool. I hope he makes it back in time for the next meaningless friendly.

You can't blame rodgers though who clearly was not happy about Studge playing that long. It's worth remembering that if Studge had pulled out he would not have been allowed to play against Everton.

I dont care how many games Rooney Gerrard etc miss. But never blame the FA in cases like Sturridge

Say my name - congratulations, on a Liverpool thread which is condemning the Liverpool manager for the injury to a Liverpool player you've managed to bring in club conflict. Well done. Carrick/Gerrard/any other sucker - the point is the same.

Personally I blame Danny and think he let his heart rule his head. He knows he has a shot at a starting place in a World Cup and wants to take every opportunity to impress, a good performance would have done that.

Admirable enthusiasm but misplaced.

The English physios had the job of deciding if he was fit. It's not anyone else's job.
