Your Team

Tonight I was asked, as I am a hundred times over, why I support Celtic when I'm from the highlands. Well this is as best and honest an answer I can give.

As a three/four year old, most kids have no notion of football.. Those that do just enjoy kicking a ball about. I was one of those. My folks had no interest in football, my dad is a rugby/boxing/Motorsport man, and my mum is.. Well my mum.. So I had no interest in the game other than chasing and kicking a football around.

The first I saw of Celtic was seeing my cousin in some horrendous Celtic home top from the late 80's/early 90's, that was it. My cousin was the big brother I never had so I looked upto him intently and wanted to replicate everything he did.. That's pretty natural, so I wanted to wear and follow the team he liked.

The most common question/criticism I'm faced with is "Why don't you support your local team"

The simple answer is.. There was no local team as far as I was concerned. At 3 or 4 years of age, football was football. I didn't know there was a highland league with three Inverness teams.. I'm not even from Inverness

As far as I was concerned I loved kicking a ball about, and my big cousin loved Celtic who did that on TV sometimes. To me, that made Celtic something I had to know about and be apart of. That's the simple truth.

I grew up supporting a team throughout the nineties that won fück all. Despite the vast majority of my pals (equally as young and equally as clueless) ripping me to bits all the time as they supported Rangers. Regardless of the MANY defeats and near misses, I followed on, determined to be a fan after learning our history and realising what Celtic meant to many more people than myself.

This is why I am a Celtic fan. Not because I'm some glory hunting Teucther, as a couple of Man Utd fans (of all people) tried calling me out for tonight.

Why do you support your team? It ain't just because they're there.. There's always a moment or moments that made you the fan you are.. Lets hear them

"That cause you would get pumped?"

Pretty much in truth. The team we have just now, just isn't ready for the intensity of a derby match, you are as you've still players who played in one, and also have had european games. In our squad we've got McCulloch, Little and Wallace. You've got Izzaguire, Matthews, Firster, Brown, Commons, Samaras, Stokes etc, all them can handle the atmosphere, so it will be a telling factor.

Aberdeen fans are some of the most vile people I've ever met. There's quite a few of them up this way, and some of the stuff they come out with us totally uncalled for.

It's just an Aberdeen thing in general I think.. Insular people who often can't stand anyone who's not from Aberdeen/north-east of Scotland.
