Rory Delap Retires.

Sad to hear that the Brewers have just announced that Rory delap has retired.
I presume this being down to the fact he's struggled with injury.
Well respected throughout football and will always be remembered for his bomb of a long throw.
Good luck Rory in retirement.

Wow. Incredible news. Thanks for bringing that to us Pez.
I am assuming that the back 'went' again and he has made a very commendable decision given that we are a league 2 club.

On the few times that I did see him play he was clearly better than everyone on the pitch. Time had not caught up on his football ability. With Darren Moore, time had caught up with him and he was clearly not as good as everyone on the pitch.

Regarding the old timers versus the new kids on the block debate, it is a gamble either way. However you could argue that we do better with the old timers.

Since we have been in the league there has been a procession of young loanees going through the Pirelli revolving door. Stacks of 'em. Only Anthony O'Connor and Tom Parkes were any good.

Yet there have been other players in the twilight of their careers who have done well for us in recent times. Kevin Poole, Simmo, Nigel Clough, Gary Rowett. Against many, many young footballers who weren't up to it only Richard Jackson and Darren Moore of the old timers were really poor signings. I won't include Rory Delap in that as he has made a quick, early decision.

Thank you Rory.

For me Otep you can never contemplate getting a lot of pitch time out of the older players because they are more likely to pick up injuries due to there long term careers. In my opinion we have been doing ok without these has beens got the tee shirt brigade.Yes you have got to have experience in the team and at the moment theres a nice balance to the team with a manager that likes stability. You name Simmo who for me was a great servant to the club never a good footballer but ok at the level he was playing at.Poole a fantastic goalkeeper but then again keepers do have longer careers.Nige was the pick of the bunch you have named a class act and for me the only one who really shone.Players who are 35 plus are a backward step in my eyes and show a lack of ambition im sorry im not a supporter of jobs for the boys and never will be its not good for our football club.

Just thought of another rubbish old timer. Bryan Hughes. I was at his one and only game. I am sure you were all there aswell.
