A lot of people on here say that playing 442 now is ridiculous, it's a dated formation that is easy for players to get in between the 3 banks of players.
However, we didn't play a strict 442 yesterday, and teams like united and city that play two strikers with Rooney and rvp and aguero and negredo don't play 442 either. Each has one player dropping off into the hole. We saw ade get back quite a lot yesterday, coming back for the ball but also running about and stretching west ham.
I know that it's not the same as a 4231 that has a creative player in the hole, but I still think that a 442 with ade dropping back a bit deeper could be very effective. But let's be honest, it all depends in whether he can be bothered. When we've played it before it's worked well, ade and Saha against Newcastle and I think ade and Defoe against arsenal before he got sent off.
The 442

Bales, this spurs squad is fantastic... No doubt we have. If one of our strikers were to get injured we could always use Lamela as a support striker as such. We have loads of options to go 2 upfront.

Don
It's a talented squad but we've only got Townsend and Lennon as wingers, we've got no width.
Would like to see Lamela as a second striker

Like I said In previous threads. I think a diamond 4-4-2 would be absolute perfect for this spurs side. Sandro as defensive midfielder, Eriksen as creative, 2 wingers Towsend on left and Lamela right... 2 upfront Soldado and Adebayor. I wanted this formation from the start.

fack me don are you serious, so when they have the ball what do we do?

The only successful teams who play two up have a second striker of genuine quality [Aguero, Tevez, Rooney], which we do not possess. It also leaves no room for Eriksen and Lamela to play in their favoured positions. Personally, I think the integration of these two players could be key to a potential resurgence in the second half of the season.

I`m all for having two up front, providing one of them is not Defoe.

The bottom line is whether Spurs play one up front or two up front, the defence is still shiiiiiiite.
