Imagine one year has passed......

It's Christmas 2014 and the Championship consists of Rangers, Hearts, Hamilton, Falkirk, Raith Rovers, Alloa, Livingston, Queen of Sth, Dumbarton, and Cowdenbeath

Rangers are sitting in third spot, with the same squad and same management team, in 50% of our games playing how we played last night against Airdrie, and against Stranraer, and in 50% how we played against Dunfermline

The pressure has been mounting on Ally week by week, not enough funds available to radically improve the squad in the January, so what does the club do?

1) Sack the entire management team and get someone in for less than half the salary, but with more tactical awareness, more management ability, a manager who can affect the outcome of a game from the touchline, or during the half-time bollocking, or through his substitutions, and try and ensure promotion?

2) Stick with the current lot in the vain hope that somehow, despite the evidence of this past year, we'll suddenly start playing beautiful attacking football, sweeping aside players on a fifth of our team's wages?

You decide!

Is simply winning League One enough for you, or do you think it would be reasonable considering our players' and manager's salaries, and training resources, and the cost of watching our heroes, for the fans to be given better quality entertainment?

After another game like last night's my patience is wearing thin

I'm definitely a bit down after last night. Hopefully be back up again after Stenny game on Sunday.

I do have concerns though for the medium term. I'd hoped we would be able to live debt-free and well within our means in our three years in the wilderness, picking a team from ever-improving youngsters, and building up our nest egg for the serious squad improvement to cover the transition from Championship to SPL. If the current lot were to win the Championship I'd be surprised and delighted. Looking ahead to SPL, how many years will we be happy bumbling along at the level of Motherwell, Aberdeen, Dundee United, not able to mount a serious challenge to Celtic's dominance

As is often the case on these boards, I hope I'm wrong. I'd have no problem in 2-3 years time coming on here, full of apologies for my pessimistic assessment of McCoist and his managerial abilities

Why would you be surprised that this squad could win the championship next season?

Who has a better squad than we have?

And the nest egg has been divided up by boardroom charlatans , if mccoist didn't bring in the players we have just now it would only have meant more cash for them carve up between them

Why the pessimism then mate?

I know what you mean about about young players but 3 of our 5 forward thinking players were McLeod , aird and Clark add another 1 or 2 next season and we won't be too far away with number of youngsters I thought we would have in our 1st team

Professor, we all have our fears for the future but meantime our team can do no more than keep climbing the leagues.

Pessimistic because I don't think McCoist is the man to improve our squad, or even get the most out of what we have. I suspect he really would prefer to buy a side rather using his managerial ability to improve the existing squad.

This year's is certainly sewn up. Can't see us romping the Championship though......as I said before, I really hope I'm wrong. Whatever happens to McCoist the manager, I'll always be grateful to McCoist the man for how he held the entire club together when we were going through our worst spell off the field

too much pessimism, we've dropped two points so far, scored 65 in 18 this season, we have a 5th round scottish cup tie at home v dunfermline and the ramsdons to come.

besides we've played a championship side this season and beat them comfortably away from home,

I reckon as the quality of the opposition improves on our journey, we'll see a step up in quality from us , as teams who have a go at playing football against us instead of being content with kicking fck out of us will leave more space to play in.

after acclimatising and a good pre season, I see no reason why we wont be winning the championship.
