The Hobbs fiasco. Called Bruces bluff?

So its been an interesting fiasco - of sorts. Question is, has this whole fiascos been a Bluff and we've called it or is there more to come?

After all:
The initial contract had an emergency clause in January. There has been no emergency at hull.

Bruce said he was recalling Hobbs in the interest of a Reading offer. Reading had said the weekend before that they were dealing with no transfers until the takeover had been completed.

Bruce threatened that Hobbs would be recalled Monday morning. Hobbs reported by journalists like NatJack to have not gone to Hull and to be still training with forest.

Then there's the building rumours of Pre-Contract agreement between Forest and Hobbs.

It really just looks like Hull tried to offload a bodged player (there's a quote somewhere about bruce saying he expected Hobbs knee to play up), realized that the players fantastic and are selling him for peanuts, then trying to bluff extra cash out of the club with neither player nor club having any of it.

In the end, he may 'technically' be a hull player, but ultimately Hobbs has the last say, and it seems that he wants to stay here .

Or is this all too early to be thinking so positively?

Bruce is trying it on.

We will remember this when we're in the Prem and dull are back in the 3rd Division where they belong.

Can everyone please refrain from calling Bruce's club anything other than their given title please, 'Soccer Tigers FC' or whatever it is.

Thanks.

Florist - the original agreeement we supposedly made can't have been 100% official. Must have been a verbal agreement. We wouldn't have been allowed to sign a pre contract with him.

Apparently the name change is with the FA at the moment if it's agreed will be in place ready for the start of next season 2013/14.

If that goes through they need to get on the blower to Kellogg's. They could have a unique sponsorship deal considering the club name, and colours. Roary the Tiger could become "Tony"

Hobbs has got Forest over a barrel on this one. If Forest lose out on Hobbs it is hugely embarrassing so Hobbs can use Reading's interest as leverage to force Forest to up his wages. It suits him just fine to have other clubs sniffing around.

Of course, this could be wrong. Perhaps his love for Forest is so deep he will come out publicly and say he will play for no other club, even if it means a lower wage.

Why not call Hobbs' bluff? Refuse to pay him what Reading are offering and wait for him to choose.

That's a pretty cynical way of looking at it Vidal and if it was the case Hobbs best bet would surely would be to let the recall happen before stating desire to join.

If he's not recalled or purchased at this stage, then the loan terms would stay the same.

If Hobbs was out for the highest wages he can get then he'd have talked to Reading already. The fact that he doesn't want to suggests Forest are offering him enough already.

He's not going to be playing for Hull, so there is no point in him going back there. He can do all of his negotiating from where he is.

We always impose our own emotional attachment to a club on players, who of course view things entirely differently. They are professionals, i.e. doing it for money rather than the love of it, and they know that the period during which they earn that money is short. They know they are likely to spend their careers playing for several clubs.

It isn't cynical, simply a statement of fact, and it doesn't mean the player won't do his best while playing for one of our teams. But it is ludicrously naïve to think of a player not having his wage as the number one priority in his life, and Hobbs will be no different. He will go to Reading if they will pay more - why wouldn't he?

Hull want a bit of cash if possible. Hobbs wants as long a contract (especially with his injury record) on as much money as he can get. Forest naturally want to pay as little as possible in transfer or wages. So it's down to negotiation. I don't doubt that if all other things are equal Hobbs would be content to stay where he is rather than uprooting and getting to know new team-mates, but at the end of the day it's all about the best deal. Hull are perfectly entitled to recall and sell their player unless there is a contract stating otherwise (clearly there isn't or this would have been dead long ago). Hull will be happy if Forest match Reading's offer by means of paying a loan fee until the end of the season. Hobbs will be happy if he gets his wedge, and he will try to use Reading to get an extended deal (three, four years?). Either Forest play ball and stump up the dosh or they lose the player. Hobbs is holding Forest to ransom.

Sounds like things are nearly sorted at least....

I am delighted to announce that I have just agreed a deal with Hull City's chairman for Jack Hobbs. #NFFC
