Sam Burgess to Union?

Looks like slamming Sam burgess could be moving to Union after an impressive career in league and most recently in the World Cup.This is huge for England because burgess is a special special player and if he can make the transition from league to Union without any problems then he could be a major player In the 2015 World Cup.

Thoughts on this and how burgess will make the transition to Union .

Hi there,

The areas where League players have the greatest superiority over Union are fitness and line breaks, as the 6 tackle rule, and lack of set pieces leads to better handling and greater intensity both in running and tackling. As such I'd say there could be a role for Burgess in Union as a centre or three quarter, in terms of those ahead of him I couldnt see him edging out Tuilagi, Mike Brown and possibly Billy Twelvetrees and Jonny May, so there might be a role for him, but he'll need to move now to have that chance. It all bodes well for Englisg rugby union, but I hope thats not at the expense of League

Thanks for posting, its an interesting topic

Apparently Stuart Lancaster is looking at him as a centre, a la Sonny Bill Williams, whether thats inside or outside I don't know but Twelvetrees and Burrell would have to step up over the next few games.

If Burgess can get used to Union imagine the impact of him and Tuillagi in the centres!

I'd like to see Eastmond at 12 and Burgess at 13, it's probably how they'll line up for Bath.

But when you put Manu into the mix, as well as Burrell & 36, England have a lot of options at 12/13.

Good times.

Yeah I agree, of that bunch of players Burgess is probably the only one I think who could play wing naturally. I'd certainly like to see players like him and Christian Wade running at a tired defence

Disappointed to see him switch codes however i would like to wish him all the best in his union career & also representing the red rose.

Hes an absolute dynamite of a player & he will be badly missed in the league.

Time for Sam Tomkins to come of age.

So............................... Bath will have two ex league lads at centre.

So much for academies.

Lord V
Has he played union before? Center is realistically one of the most pivotal defensive positions on the field. And if he hasn't played union union defence is quite a learning curve. Classically league converts do quite badly in the early days in but carrying the ball and then placing it properly for the SH and indeed tackling carriers and then trying to poach the ball as these literally are null and void in league.

Like SARS says, wing is probably the best place for converts to go. Or even FB..... Jason robinson...Israel Folau

LETHAL FB who came from league.
