For what it's worth, my thoughts on Dylan.

Superb wordsmith, one of the great poets of his, or indeed any, generation, but....

Please don't sing. Ever.

Moj, you and Mrs.D are joined at the hip on that one!
If I only had a pound for every occasion she interrupted my indulgences by proclaiming " The songs vate great, I wish someone else would sing them".
But it's even worse when I sing them! !

Mojaca, he's also one if the great songwriters in terms of just musicianship. I think that gets overlooked a lot, but songs like knocking on heavens door, just like a woman, lay lady lay and watchtower are for me great examples of his ability to pen a great melody

Yes his voice was never his strong point but it never needed to be. His ability to write iconic pieces of music and speak to generations with his words are for me what makes him the greatest recording artist of recent times.

He's no Benny Andersson though.

There are a couple of anomalies .
Strangely, Dylan almost sings like a nightingale on the New Morning album , also Nashville Skyline.

That's because he gave up smoking after his motorcycle crash during the recording of those albums apparently!

blackstarr: yes, I'll amend that to include songwriter of course. I love it when other people cover his songs!

RiD: I can't comprehend of you being able to sing them worse than Dylan! That is an achievement in itself!
