Christian Benteke Out For Six Months!

This is pretty disappointing news. I was looking forward to Benteke playing at the WC this summer, but unfortunately an Achilles tear has ended those chances.

He has lit up the Premier League in the last few seasons with his powerful style of play, but what an unfortunate way to miss a big tournament for a young footballer.

I hope this does not affect his footballing ability in the near future, as this type of injury is not pleasant. But, I don't know whether this is a bigger blow for Villa or Belgium.

We have Helinus who Lambert brought but hardly gave an opportunity too, even when Benteke and Kozak were injured, instead he opted to loan a 30+ year old. It says a lot of what he thinks of Helinus, a shame, as when the rare occasions he did play Helinus he scored.

But, this injury just gives Lambert another fackin excuse to buy a 6ft+ player.

Oh yeah, and Villa.

This is about the worst news we could have!

Benteke will almost certainly never be the same player again. Our chances of cashing in on him are almost certainly gone now.

In the short term, we could be in big trouble. With Cardiff playing Crystal Palace, Norwich playing West Brom and Hull playing Swansea, a Fulham win on Saturday would plunge us right back into a relegation fight.

With the ageing, lumbering, journeyman, donkey called Holt playing, the chances of this happening increase significantly. I hope to God that Helenius plays but this is Lambert. Oh and Gabby is doubtful too!

We're becoming like Arsenal with all these injuries. Okore, Kozak, N'Zogbia, Benteke. They are all players who would be starting or at the very least in the squad of 18. What does Lambert do in training? Clearly, it is not working. To have one long term injury is unusual, to have four is just plain ridiculous. Not happy and this can't just be coincidence.

We're still not safe and without our best player I am really worried we might still go down. Holt is terrible, Agbonlahor is useless these days, Weimann doesn't score enough. Our central midfield don't exactly contribute with that either. Where the hell are our goals going to come from? We'll have to rely on sneaking games 1-0 but our defence isn't good enough so I don't see how we can do that.

Absolutely seething about this.

Christian Benteke Out For Six Months!
----------------------------

As a Palace fan, Benteke being out for our upcoming game is obviously a bonus for us. I'd much preferred if he just 'had a knock' and missed a few days though.
As for missing the World Cup, I feel real sorry for the lad.

All the best

Sad for the person with the injury. But my loyalty is with Villa, and Benteke has only put in an effort near transfer windows or against big clubs (potential buyers).

He's a great player but his eyes are on bigger prizes (fair enough) but whilst you're at a club give it 100% all the time please.

The level of injuries in our squad could also be a reflection of its size. If we had more decent players the load could be shared out (similar to Arsenal who have quite a small squad). Also our style of play encourages injuries (playing on the counter), so players have to put there bodies through more on the 'counter' .

Injuries in training are becoming more common in all clubs. Seems to be the attitude that you have to play in training as you would on the field. MON to his credit didn't do things that way. Only problem was the general level of fitness of his players was also lower, so we rain out of steam towards the end of the season.

Benteke's injury doesn't sound like a clash though. More an awkward fall with all his weight coming on the tendon. Bad luck, as was N'zogbia's. Okore's happened in a match, again bad luck the way he landed. Kozak was the only one in a training clash.

We CAN manage without Benteke, just have to make sure we do it. If Weimann plays more up front he might score more goals. Helenius at least needs to be on the bench. Holt isn't as bad as people make out; he was pretty good at Norwich, although he is that bit older now.

In a way losing Vlaar was more critical than losing Benteke. We need to make sure Vlaar & Co are back to their defensive best, not what we've been served up the last two games.

Tough luck for the lad, because he was just finding his form for Villa, scoring goals and tormenting opposition's defensive lines; and would have easily made the WC for Belgium.

It's fortunate for Villa that I think they've done enough to stay up. Had this injury happened over Christmas ,for example, it would have quite possibly put the club into the bottom 4 or 5, battling for survival with indifferent form, a lack of goals and a leaky defence. But as it is, I think Villa are safe.

The only other concern is how this injury will affect his performance in the future? He may fully recover and find his goal-scoring form again; or it could go the opposite way where he'll suffer constant injuries and a total lack of form. Which could make Villa vulnerable to the drop next season.

He reminds me of the Villa strikers of old - Withe, Gray & Saunders et al. Hope he makes a full recovery though. (and I'm a poor old Bluenose looking on with envy )

At least you've still got Grant Holt
Does he play in incontinence pants these days?
