my view of yesterday's game, which saw wolves take a big step back to the championship as well as reaching another record - this time equalling the 23 clean sheets in a season that has stood since 1923-24.
ikeme - 8: as with so many matches this season, hard to judge as he had so little to do. but the one moment he was needed he pulled off a great save from a 30 yard effort that was angling towards the top corner of his goal.
ricketts - 8: had an inspired twenty minutes when he set up the opener, should have scored himself and could have had a second assist.
batth - 9: untroubled by the 'boro forwards and scored a long awaited goal to get us ahead
stearman - 9: equally solid at the back, unselfishly didn't tap in edwards goal bound effort when he could have (and avoided any possible off-side flag at the same time)
goldy - 7: not quite as effective going forward as in recent weeks but his main job, defending, was solid all game.
jacobs - 8: some good passes and runs with the ball but less of an overall impact than in some other games. pointless swapping of wings with sako didn't help.
edwards - 8: silenced his critics once again with another hard working game capped by the goal that sealed the win. looked a yard short of pace on a couple of occasions he might have done better from but he is still the only CM we have that gets in the box and scores the unspectacular but crucial goals.
kmac - 9: MOTM again without doing anything that stands out. always involved, providing a passing option for defence and midfield, excellent control, quality passing, and a real calm head when we needed it. he's our third division version of fabregas or gerrard and hopefully like those players he will add an extra 10-15 goals a season to his tally next year.
price - 7: a little wayward with his passing first half but improved as he settled back into the team. good engine and breaks up the opposition play time and again but best when he then plays the simple pass forward rather than looking for the long range hollywood stuff.
sako - 8: in typical marmite fashion he managed to cause a fight in the usually library-like BQ, as a regular threatened to brain someone who had been abusing sako first half for losing the ball. yes, he lost it a few times but the reason that stands out is how often he was the man trying to create a chance or carve out a shot. on another day he'd have had two long range crackers to his name, as it was he assisted the vital second goal and still got a standing ovation after missing a penalty. for me, every team has room for a flair player and sako is ours.
dicko - 8: quiet first half, but as often happens, revelled in the extra space against a tiring defence in the second. should have scored after running half the length of the pitch and holding off three defenders but won the penalty late on that should have led to our third. surprised he iisn't our regular pen taker tho and perhaps he needs to take over duties after another miss from sako.
KJ - 8: right team, right tactics, a little late with his subs as ever but another great win
crowd - 10: 23,000 wolves fans (with about 200 'boro making up the total attendance). in good voice and good to see them clap the team off at half time even though it was 0-0. rotherham game could be party time at molineux and hopefully 25,000 plus there to see it.

We could have played messi alongside seb last season and still ended up in league one with those managers. Vokes scored 1 every 10 games in his wolves career and letting him go was no big deal at the time. He scored 3 goals in over 25 games on loan at Burnley and Brighton last season so following your advice would not have helped us one bit.

Only 13 starts that season and 4 goals.
Who knows how it would have worked out, but he has proven he is a very capable championship striker one year on, as with many many strikers, you need a prolonged chance to show your true capabilities, he finally has got that this season and shown it.
For me it was clear from the glimpses we got that he had something, he and SEB would have been a good pairing i reckon, biggy, littly, works a treat in the champo.

Exactly, whether that's players or managers. Knee-jerk reaction, and then we plummeted down the divisions. Clubs are too hasty to fire and hire these days.

I don't agree with the standpoint you just came with Bute, the man you are refering too had over 100 games with us at the top table, plenty of time.
But overall hasty sackings do nobody any favours, hence i wouldn't have sacked Stale, and would even have supported Deano had he stayed, managers make errors and hopefully learn from them.
Also why any talk of Poyet ''failing'', a costly error and so on is just ridiculous, he had a damn tough job on, basically a 31 game season to other teams 38 as they had 1 point when he started, he now knows what he has at his disposal and will improve things in the summer, if a new man comes in he starts from zero and so the merry go round continues.

As I said Vokes played 27 games last season and was not successful, that's why we let him go. I don't doubt that in your fantasy world the fact he is scoring goals this season means he would have done last even though he didn't.
And if my mother had wheels she would be a bike

Why the stupid comments?
It is not daft to suggest if Vokes had started more games he would likely have done much better.
Exactly how many subs come on week in week out and score lots of goals? Not many.
He was behind a 30 goals striker for a start, hardly an easy task.
You believe what you want, i think Vokes would have done well with us given the chance, and this season justifies my view.

I think Poyet will come good, not so sure about Vokes.
I've seen Burnley a few times this season and he doesn't really do much besides his goals.
That's fine while it lasts but I doubt he'll keep his scoring rate up consistently and he certainly won't achieve anything of note in the prem.

Yeah, I think vokes is just suited to the champo but unlikely higher than that.

This constant argument that the only reason that players don't do better is because they are not picked often is just daft. We might as well forget how a player is actually playing and just pick a team from a raffle then stick to it every week. Forget ability forget form just pick people that cinci approves of until they get better.
How great would it be to have an occasional thread on here that didn't turn into a cinci q&a. Just find something else to do with your life a couple of days a week. Learn juggling, or go and look at some birds

Particularly with forwards you get players who gel with certain formations and/or team mates.
That clearly applies to Vokes. And unfortunatly maybe to Clarke .
