In 06/07 Season Bayern finished in 4th Outside the Champions League places. They was also knocked out the German Cup in the 3rd round and got knocked out the CL in the quarter finals to Ac Milan who was a very good side then.
Despite winning the league the previous season Bayern never really got going. Even though they had the likes of Kahn, Roy Makaay, Van Bommel & Schweinsteiger Felix Magath was sacked in February and his predecessor Ottmar Hitzfeld replaced him but they pretty much stayed 4th all season.
In the summer the club had a major restructure with 9 players leaving either sold, released or retiring. 10 players were brought in including Ribery, Luca Toni, Klose & Ze Roberto they went on to win the double that season.
Now i'm not saying we are going to do exactly the same and win the double next season but we need to do what Bayern did act quickly and have a major overhaul of the squad. They attracted quality players despite not being in the CL because they had a well respected manager in Hitzfeld & because of the size of the club.
8 years on they are now considered to be the best team in the world and that awful season has played a big part in where they are today. Bayern made sure it would not happen again and we need to do the same bringing in the right manager who will bring in the right kind of player.
8 years from now hopefully sooner we could be where Bayern are and look back at this disastrous season thinking it was a blessing in disguise.

All depends on who you appoint I guess, but being linked with names like Ancelotti (IMO he's the man you should do everythign to get, look at what he did at Chelsea) Van Gall etc. is a good thing.
United will be fine but to be honest a few seasons of no cl and winning feck all will do some of your fans the world of good.

Van Gaal restructured Bayern and more so Barcelona.
His dream at Barca was to bring through players from the lower ranks and win things.
He is highly thought of by so many people in the game and has a fondness for attacking football, wingers and is a disciplinarian. Could be the man.
I saw Ancelotti was 33/1 last night and I am going to have a punt on him as he is often quoted as being unsettled there and if they lose semi and La Liga he could walk or get the boot

I certainly don't think we will buy 10 players either or get rid of 9 even though most of us could probably name 9 players we would like to leave.
Maybe 6 out 6 in

No big time charlies at Utd once LVG comes in anyway:
Former Holland and Barcelona winger Bolo Zenden tells BBC Radio 5 live he has seen Louis van Gaal handle big-name players well. The current Dutch boss is odds-on favourite to become Manchester United manager.
Zenden says: "Rivaldo was playing at Barcelona alongside me, won the Golden Ball as player of the year and thought he was better off playing behind the strikers so as soon as he won this massive trophy he just said 'I don't want to play on the left no more.' Van Gaal said 'right that's your decision'. What followed was that he could sit on the bench because the manager decides where he plays. He's one of the managers who knows how to deal with the bigger ones and when he thinks something is right that's what he will do."

What big, big teams did Bayern have to get past?
City
Chelsea
Arsenal
Liverpool
Will all strengthen in the summer!

Certainly it will be a lot harder then what Bayern has had to do because there are stronger sides in the prem then the Bundesliga. Bayern have not had it there own way since then Dortmund & wolfsburg have won it but what they did when they had that bad season we need to do as well.
Maybe 6 or 7 need to leave and the same amount brought in i'm not expecting instant success just the start of a new successful era hopefully. Like you say teams around us will strengthen as well it will take time im sure.

Arsenal have Wenger, so even if they buy Ronaldo, they will still fail.
Liverpool need to add to their squad as they will play more games next season
City will be a force
Chelsea will be a force
United will be a force with a new manager and players hungry to prove themselves.
