Ronnie: World Snooker Player Of The Year

Ronnie wins World Snooker player of the year at the end of season bash.

No doubt about it, it was a very disappointing end to the season for Ronnie fans for Ronnie to not win the World Championship again. However, now some time has passed and the emotions have settled, we can still see it has been another good year for the Rocket.

World Snooker think he was the best player and so do the fans! :D

As much of a fan I am of Ronnie, Ding won 5 Ranking Events and got to another final. But to lose to Wasley (no matter how well he played in that match, you've got to win those matches.

You could also argue that Selby could've got it by reaching finals of all 3 majors.

Or Robbo with 2 rankers and 100 centuries.

My vote goes to Dominic Dale, won the snooker shootout and World QF

Ronnie won 4 tournaments and reached a third consecutive world final and another 50 centuries in half the tournaments played by Robertson.

wetherbyterrier what I said was nothing to do with being a Ronnie hater it was all about facts. Ding has been the most consistent player overall. Winning 5 ranking titles in a season and equaling Hendrys records when he did that in season 1990/1991 is a huge achievement.
Yes Ding lost Michael Wasley but these upsets happen, Ronnie has lost to a few unknown players in tournaments this season as well!

I know that Arsenal, the longer format suits the better players usually. You don't like Ronnie though, you state many times on here how you want Ding and Trump to dominate.

There's nothing wrong with me supporting other players though. Everyone has different opinion. it's only really Daniel that gets wound up because I don't support Ronnie and sometimes you as well lol.

I'm not wound up... we just disagree!

Pesonally, would have thought Ding or Selby would have won it.

Being world champion doesn't mean you should automatically win, but it probably puts you in the running, and given he reached the 3 major finals, even though he's not my cup of tea, Selby would have been a deserved winner.

It's easy to say that with so many tournaments, wiining 5 of them doesn't take much, but I don't see any other player having done it bar Ding this year, and with such strength in depth, it is a noteworthy achievement.

Ronnie has had a good year, but by not winning the world title, it's not as good as it could have been for him.

And perhaps the player of the year should go to someone who actually commits to playing most of the tournaments for the year

On the flip side to that commitment issue, Ronnie has had a great year by only playing a select few!

I agree that Ronnie has had a 'good year', but he's in a lucky position that he can pick and choose his tournaments. He admits himself that he doesn't have the motivation (or discipline?) to play in most tournaments, so some might say that giving player of the year to a player with that attitude doesn't sit quite right.

Anyway, it's all subjective, and the main thing is that any tournament Ronnie is in, he is still THE man to beat.
