Lack of Black...

With the prospect of having our first white first choice right back in over a decade, in has finally dawned on me we face going into the new season without any black first team starters.
This, to me, is a scary prospect. Never in my time as an Arsenal supporter have we faced such a situation.
Back in the Graham era we had Rocky, Mickey T, Paul Davis and then Kevin Campbell and Ian Wright to give us a bit of colour.
Of course when Arsene Wenger came to us he immediately took the number of blacks up, seeing that the end of the Graham era had left us worryingly short of ethnics. Paddy Vieira, Christopher Wreh, Nic Anelka and Luis Boa Morte were quickly shipped in, Lauren, Sol and Kolo soon followed. Success returned to our club and the black drought that coincided with a down turn in success ended.


But here we are, just YaYa Sanogo and Joel Campbell representing for the minorities in our first team squad. Neither are guaranteed being part of the squad come September the first. Worrying.

Yes, we have the likes of Theo, Ox and KG but not only are all 3 very injury prone and apt to be replaced by white as a ghost players, they are also only half caste.

Teams in England just don't have success without black players being significant. YaYa, for instance, was key to City's success last season. Patrice Evra a mainstay for Uniteds recent glory. Even Liverpool saw a massive jump last season when they realised the importance of bringing in a few black players. In came Sturridge, Sterling and Cissokho, and suddenly they are title challengers.


Replacing Bacary does not just require the signing of a right back. No, it also requires signing top quality black players. Or we face going back to the post double 70s disaster. Having just Bac was bad enough, but now it is on course for a disaster.


They say once you go black you don't go back. Well it looks like Arsene is ignoring this fable. And it could be costly.
