It really all depends on the pre season. If Wilshere has a good one then Wenger won't sign a DM. Him and Alex Song had a good partnership as DM, switching roles constantly.

Yeah he said his future is in front of defence.

I don't think Wenger said Wilshere will play DM. He'd have been insane to do so cos Wilshere lacks the defensive skill set, positional discipline or physical qualities to excel in the position. If he did say that, it's just further evidence he's well past it.

Agree Sheriff. Would feel like forcing his favourites into the team rather than the best player in each position, which I don't think is a trait of Wengers.

Expecting Wilshere to back up Ramsey and Ozil this season from the bench and in the "easier" games.

That being said, if Diaby can stay relatively fit, I think JW will have a problem trying to get in ahead of him too

From hearing AW he does seem very sure Jack will eventually play deep. He has said he's intelligent and has tactical nous to play there. But personally I'm guessing AW sees him more as a Pirlo/Xavi type, who have had a defensive minded partner beside them in their careers.

Sell him to barca while we still can and cut our losses. All these players much potential not much else.

I remember when Wenger gave him the nimberc10 shirt and said his best position, I guess he's just going with the cheaper option. To be fair I could probably accept this if I thought we were gonna sign a striker.
